Page 156 of Survival is Hard

The younger tiger brother is a little overwhelmed, but when his eyes meet mine, he beams at me.

“I’ve missed you, pretty girl.”

“Missed you right back, Romeo,” I reply, cuddling in close. “How did the t-shirt I got have no stains on it but still smell of you?”

“Orson made me wear it to bed,” Micah says, and I burst into giggles. He gives me a chaste kiss, the eyes on us making him nervous.

“How much of our jigsaw have you done?” I ask, teasingly. I know he’ll not have touched it.

“Finished it,” he lies.

“Liar,” Voss says, winking at me. “He would just sit and look at it. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.”

“He’s not the only pathetic man here,” Cevon says dryly. “Are we going to continue this out here or can I get my mate inside?”

“Your mate would’ve already been in her home, after eating and having a nice weekend watching her brother’s mating ceremony, if it weren’t for you,” Atticus says. “So don’t act like we’re the problem.”

“I so wish they murdered you,” Cevon says. “Oh well, next time I’ll make sure I send double.”

Voss snorts.

My wolf is whining, wanting to get our hands on my other four mates, but none of them reach for me, or give any sign that a reunion would be welcome.

It’s heartbreaking.

“I’m going inside,” I say, cutting Mal off. “I need meds, a hot water bottle, and away from all of you.”

My words were directed at the four rude mates, not Voss or Micah.

Hell, even Cevon is safe right now.

Orson’s eyes flash with hurt, but he’s put me before Atticus numerous times, and this time he’s choosing to be Atty’s second over being my mate.

That’s his choice, but I have every right to be upset about it.

“What’s with the attitude, little warrior?”

I ignore him and make my way to the front door. Micah and Voss are hot on my tails, but Cevon surprisingly stops and murmurs something to Mal.

“I give you this warning not because I want you to survive, but because we used to be friends.” Cevon’s low tones hit my ears as I fumble with the front door. “But try and be especially nice to her. I know it’s hard for someone of your arrogance, but our mate is a little bit vicious right now. Her uterus is attacking her, and it’s making her deadly.”

There’s a stunned sort of silence, and I’m kind of impressed he said that.

The rest of the merry band trudge inside, and as far as reunions go, this went well.

Nobody tried to kill anyone.

And, honestly, with the shitty reception from most of my mates, when we have our family dinner, the big threat is me.

Because my wolf and I have finally come to terms with things, and it’s time for our mates to get with the program.

NORA

Orson silently hands me two tablets and passes me a glass of water. I take a few sips before taking the pain relief under the scrutiny of everyone. I wonder if they’re nervous about me taking medication. I know that Atticus still watches me take my singular sleeping tablet each night with bated breath.

But do they all feel that way?
