“A walk,” Cevon sighs, and his petulant attitude is more because he’s lost than anything else. “Fancy heading over to the graveyard?”

“Why?”

“Because I have a feeling you’ll want to piss on someone’s grave once I’m done.”

Malachi snorts, but we can all scent the hopeful energy from him.

“Come with,” Cevon mutters. “I suppose it’s only fair.”

“Me, too?” Orson asks cheekily.

“Fuck off, bear,” Malachi snaps, and I hold in my amusement.

Malachi has always been upset about not having the coveted place of second in the pride, but, deep down, he knows he’s not the one suited to the role.

But now that Cevon’s back, he’s got the chance to get his friend back, and I know he wants it.

It just depends on if he’s going to be open about what he’s doing or not. That can really set their friendship back.

MALACHI

Cevon, Atticus, and I walk away from the house after Cevon made sure Orson and Voss would go back in to protect Nora.

Not that anything is going to happen, but Cevon is an overprotective fool. He’s paranoid something will happen to her after the way Lainey was brutalised, but, honestly, I don’t think anything will happen to Nora.

Not if Lainey’s death wasn’t the freak attack Cevon seems to think it is.

“You said Dad was the one that you’d not copy parenting styles from,” Atticus says. “What do you mean by that?”

I’m also intrigued to know what he meant by that. I hate that there’s this part of himself that he’s never shared, and it’s something I’m upset about.

“You helped me leave my own abusive household,” I say, and Cevon sighs as we walk. “And now you’ve been keeping shit from me? Not cool, bro.”

“Look, this isn’t going to be a bonding moment,” he says, glaring forward as he refuses to acknowledge both Atticus and I. Atticus glances at me, and all I can see is how worried he is. “This is me opening up, so I get to be there for Nora’s heat. Fuck if I’m going to sit on the sidelines whilst Voss and Micah help her through it. Voss is decent enough, but Micah doesn’t know his dick from his balls.”

I snort. “Maybe not, but he’s the only one with an invitation currently.” I don’t like that he’s mean about Micah, not when he genuinely means it.

The rest of us tease Micah a lot, but it’s in good fun and never to hurt him.

Cevon’s just being a dick.

“So I’m willing to share if it means I get my invite back,” Cevon says. He pauses in his walking and gives us both a stern look. “So, you both better tell her how I opened up, and you all love me now, or I’ll beat your fucking ass.”

I roll my eyes. He’s such a fucking dick, but if this is the incentive he needs to finally work as part of the team, then Nora’s wolf has done her job.

“Fair enough,” Atticus says with a firm nod. “I’ll tell Nora you opened up.”

“Good.”

And then we fall silent as we walk, and he doesn’t, in fact, open up. Instead, there’s a pissed off aura as he walks, his anger building as does his resentment of us and this situation.

“Are you going to talk or...” I trail off.

“It’s fucking hard,” Cevon snaps, kicking a rock across the street. “I don’t know what to fucking say.”

“You helped me out of my own abusive household,” I say, glancing at him. “When the truth about my heritage came out, you made sure I had somewhere safe to live, you helped me get Micah out safely. You know about all my damage, Cev, it’s not like I’m going to judge you for your own.”
