Page 93 of Survival is Hard

Once she’s fully wrapped up, I clip one belt over her before sighing and doing a second one too. We’d survive a car crash, but in her state, I don’t want to take any risks.

I then start the drive back to my house.

The humans are pathetic. They call themselves hunters, yet, they didn’t even realise that I was there with them today.

If they weren’t human but a lion? He’d have smelt me a fucking mile off.

But them? They didn’t even notice the car in the area.

Fools.

It’s a good thing Atticus killed them. It saved me a job.

I can’t help but keep glancing back at the girl on my back seats as we drive, and the mess of emotions within me is so confusing.

I fucked up greatly here by taking her. I might have just ruined my entire plan. It’s been years in the making, and I’m so close. I had four names left, four fucking names.

And now I have the Queen of the Phoenix Pride, and she’s just become the most important thing.

Fuck.

Where the fuck am I?

Is this a room in our ridiculously large house that I’ve never been in? Are we back at the cabin?

My eyes are slowly opening up, and the groggy feeling of when I’ve taken a sleeping table overwhelms me, and I hate it. It takes a few minutes to feel a little less groggy, but, this time, there’s a sick feeling in my stomach.

I know I’ve not overdosed, Atticus only gives me one tablet each night, and I’ve not actively tried to kill myself. I wonder if I should have eaten before taking one of them?

Or wait… what time is it? Maybe I’ve just slept for too long. My mouth is dry, and when I take a deep breath, there’s a thick smell of dust in the air.

Underneath it all, is nothing. The scents in here are all wrong.

There’s no familiarity, no scent of shifters, fuck, there’s nothing here reminding me of my mates.

There’s nothing here at all.

I open my eyes properly and rub at them, trying to clear them so that I can see properly. There’s a fogginess to my vision that isn’t usually there.

I’ll have to let George know, so we can maybe adjust my medication.

I push back the duvet, the thick weight of it harder to move in my weakened state. But the moment it’s gone, I’m freezing. Goosebumps appear across my skin, the bare legs, the bare arms, and the bare stomach alerting me to the fact that I’m pretty much naked here.

Shit.

Where the fuck are my clothes? I never sleep in just my underwear, and the bra I’m wearing doesn’t even seem to fit me properly. I fix it the best I can before rubbing at my temples to try and think back to what’s happening.

But everything is blank.

I storm out of the room, taking a deep inhale and follow the intriguing scent. There’s a lion shifter here, one who is not my mate.

I push open the door, spotting a man standing looking out of the window. The room we’re in is an office, or at least I think it is.

There’s a desk, an office chair, and a computer on top of the desk, and that’s literally it. The only things in the room are the curtains covering the windows and a lamp shade.
