“I remember everything I’ve ever said to you, honey,” I said.

Behind me, Seb joined Rome in making sex noises. I looked over my shoulder and saw the two of them making motions with a hockey stick that defaced the entire game.

Morons.

“Henry, I hate asking…”

“I know you do,” I said. “Um, you want me to fill in the blanks?”

“If you don’t mind.”

“I told you if you were ever in town… is this the call? You’re in town?”

“I will be. When I leave here. With Travis.”

“Okay.”

“Okay? Are you sure?”

“Of course I am,” I said. My heart actually raced a little. Travis… that will be great to see the kid again. Maybe get to know him a little more. Just in case…

“Please be honest,” Sage said. “Things are a little rough here.”

“What do you mean?”

“I don’t want to talk about it right now. I blame myself for everything.”

“That can’t be right.”

“Careful, Henry. You don’t know the full story.”

“And now you want to come visit me?” I asked, trying to offer up a little humor.

I missed the mark.

“We can just pretend I didn’t call.”

“Sage, no. I’m a man of my word. You know that about me. Whatever you need. I respect it. A lot has happened. I can only imagine what it must be like being in the house right now. Without Leon around.”

“Yeah,” she said.

“I appreciate you calling. You know my answer already. Pack up and head out. I’ll text you an address. Are you leaving right now? Or…”

“Was hoping to leave as soon as possible,” she said. “In reality, tomorrow? Is that okay?”

“Perfect, honey. Can’t wait to see you and Travis.”

“Are you sure about this?”

“Any chance to see you… I’m always sure of.”

Sage sighed. “Henry…”

“See you tomorrow, Sage.”

When the call ended and I turned around, I felt like my feet were going to lift up off the ground.

“You have hearts coming out of your eyes,” Jago said.
