For the first time in a really long time, I’ve given up complete control and care.

I need this moment.

Henry places me down onto the bed.

I look up into his eyes.

“Just get some sleep, Sage,” he whispers. “I’ll check on the kid. Make sure he’s fine. I’ll make sure every door and window are locked tight too.” He smiles. “You just get some sleep…”

Henry drops his lips to mine for a second and then moves his mouth to my ear.

“No matter what, honey, I’m always here…”

Chapter Thirty-Four

HENRY

I stood outside with a cup of coffee and watched the waves.

My mind didn’t race with thoughts. My mind was sunk deep in thought. Everything went back to Leon and what that man did for me. He did it for nothing too. He did it because he saw something in me. Or maybe he did it for some other reason. No matter what the answer really was, Leon knew I had nobody in my life to help and guide me. He knew I had no father and no father figure.

And now I felt I was faced the same with-

“Henry?”

I turned my head and saw Travis standing in the doorway.

“Morning, kid,” I said with a smile.

“I’m a little thirsty.”

“Hungry too, huh?”

Travis nodded. “Starving to death over here.”

“We better get you fed, kid. Do you know how to make waffles? Pancakes?”

“No,” he said.

“I’ll teach you. But not today. I say we order a huge breakfast and then spend the day finding some adventures. Deal?”

“Heck yes,” Travis said.

I walked up to him and offered my right fist.

He punched with this left fist.

I couldn’t help myself as I picked out features on him that matched features on me.

There was a menu to a breakfast place on the fridge.

Travis plucked it off and stroked his chin.

“What is it, kid?” I asked.

“Ever get the urge to just order one of everything from a menu?”

I thought about it for a second. “I like it.”
