Proof of that came a moment later when the front door opened and out came Travis.

“Mom,” he growled. “There are no chargers in the house!”

I looked back at him, ready to give him the mom look, silently threatening every electronic device he owned… but I saw the look in his eyes. My son was devastated that his great-grandfather had died and was now using a missing cellphone charger as an excuse to blow off some anger.

As I opened my mouth to respond to him in a calm voice, Henry jumped in.

“Here, I’ve got you covered,” he said to Travis.

We stopped shaking hands and Henry gave the signal for one minute.

He rushed back to his SUV and opened the back door and appeared again a few seconds later with a cellphone charger.

“Hope we have the same phone,” he said to Travis as he tossed the charger up to the porch.

Travis caught the skinny white cord and nodded. “Yeah, this works.”

“Keep it,” Henry said. “I swear those things grow legs and walk off, you know? I have a bunch.”

“Okay,” Travis said.

He turned.

I whistled. “Hey. What do you say?”

“Oh, right,” Travis said, looking back. “Sorry. Thanks for this.”

He went back into the house.

I sighed and looked at Henry. “I’m so sorry about that.”

“For what?”

“That’s not like him. He’s just-”

“Going through a lot?” Henry asked. “I bet. His great-grandfather passed away. That’s got to be a gut punch to the kid. Especially if Leon was in his life.”

“Oh, he was,” I said. “My grandfather adored Travis.”

“There you go then. Seriously. It’s not a big deal. The kid is hurting right now. I’m sure he didn’t mean to get pissed off over a phone charger. But it’s solved.”

Wow, Henry…

All grown up and still so sweet.

I caught myself almost swooning over him.

That fast, huh?

Yeah. That fast.

He was so grown up now.

So manly.

His face aged like a perfect stone.

I saw little scars here and there and could only imagine they were battles scars from intense hockey games.
