The words were already burned into my head though.

My wife…?

What the hell?

Was Sage… married…?

I stupidly thought since nobody was here with Sage that meant she was single.

Or not even that…

She could have had someone to spend time with.

I could only imagine how stressful her life must have been.

Taking care of Leon.

Taking care of her son.

A single mom with her grandfather dying at home…

Of course she needed something for herself.

I caught myself gritting my teeth, fighting off jealousy.

Someone touching Sage…

“I’ll leave you two be,” I announced.

Sage and her son looked at me.

“What?” Sage asked. “No. You can stay for pizza. Right, Travis?”

I put a hand out. “I appreciate that. I still have to get to my hotel and get settled in. I came here right from the airport.”

“Are you sure?” Sage asked.

I moved closer to her. “Don’t worry about me for a second, Sage. I don’t want to impose on anything.”

Sage opened her mouth.

I leaned down toward her to whisper. “See you at the services tomorrow?”

“Yes,” she whispered back at me.

I felt her breath gently touch my face and neck.

All I wanted to do was grab her by her womanly-figured hips, pick her up, kiss her and show her what it was like to be with the manly version of myself.

Her son stood in the kitchen, far too young to understand a thing and take a hint.

Or maybe he knew everything and was protecting his mother.

Either way, the kid had my respect.

I hugged Sage goodbye.

I offered my hand to Travis and we shook.
