“A white wine spritzer. Rae, what do you want to drink?” I pat her shoulder.
She turns and faces me.
“Whatever you’re having.” She turns away from me and scans the restaurant area.
I smile at Dave, and he recognizes me.
“Hey. You’re her. J’s girl.”
I place my index finger over my lips and wink.
“Um…” I squint and nod, smiling.
He smiles and covers his mouth with his hand.
“My friend wants the same, a white wine spritzer, please.”
“Coming right up.” Dave turns and walks toward the end of the bar, where I see Jaden bringing bottles of alcohol to restock the bar. He smiles at me, then goes about his task.
“Rae,” I tap her shoulder. “Who are you looking for?”
She quickly turns and faces me.
“No one. Why?” She scoots her stool closer to mine and grins as though she’s hiding something from me.
“Okay. If you say so.”
“Here you go, ladies.” Dave sets our drinks before us.
“Thank you.” I turn to Rae.
“Cheers to a fun night.” I lift my glass and she clinks hers to mine.
“Did you put your name on the list for a table?” I ask.
“Yes. It’s going to be about thirty minutes, though. This place is packed tonight.” She leans close and asks, “Where’s your hot student?”
I shrug and sip on my drink.
“Oh, c’mon, Blaire. I know he’s here somewhere.” She glances all around the bar and restaurant.
I catch Jaden coming from the kitchen with a black tray. He’s going to bus some table, so I say to Rae, “Keep looking, you’ll see him soon.”
She scans the open area again, then points to him.
“Oh, there he is. So, fucking hot.”
“Mmm, hmm,” I say and sip on my drink while we wait for our table.
The host calls Rae’s name well before thirty minutes pass by, and we hop down from the bar stools and follow her to our table.
At our table, our server asks if we want another round. We order more drinks and an appetizer.
“Rae. I have something to tell you.”
“Oh, my god. What?” She sits tall in her chair and clasps her hands on the table.
“You have to promise to take this to the grave.” I give her a stern look.
