“So what?”

Matt lowered himself beside me, his face an inch away from mine, looking straight into my eyes.

“I. Don’t. Like it. That’s what.” He enunciated every word that came out between greeted teeth, all his muscles tensed up.

Before I could get myself out of the trance his jealousy had put me under, Matt sprung to his feet and covered me with his towel.

“You jealous, Husband?”

“No, Wife. I just don’t share well.” The sarcasm in his tone and the click of his jaw sent another beam of exhilaration through me.

“Then let’s get out of here. Take me to lunch, maybe?”

“As long as you wear something that doesn’t flash your ass to every horny man around.”

“Toxic as fuck, but deal.”

Matt tried to hold back his chuckle at my reply, but the glint in his eyes was impossible to hide.

After changing, we went for lunch in the city again and slowly started falling back into yesterday’s comfort.

Whenever Matt smiled, it was so delightful and warm that it almost took my breath away. His normal self is broody and serious, not to mention controlled at all times. But there was a strange sense of pride when that wall came down, and I saw him genuinely smiling, as if I was privileged to see a part of him the world didn’t know existed.

We roamed around the city the whole afternoon. Matt took me to see the parts of Havana he enjoyed the most, and once again, the time we spent together made me think that maybe I could live like this with him and someday be happy.

We ended up strolling by the sea at sunset. I stopped to admire the beauty in front of us, the sky taking on hues of red and orange as the sun blended into the horizon. The smile I had on my face turned cold as I struggled to swallow the lump in my throat.

I liked Matt. I really liked Matt, for lack of a better definition I couldn’t permit myself. I was starting to expose myself in a way I had promised I never would. Not again.

Vulnerable. Easy to hurt.

“Is something wrong?” Matt asked, concern knitting his brows as he felt the sudden change in my mood.

I’m afraid. I wanted to say. That was the root of my unusual behavior lately.

“Nothing. Just getting a little cold,” I lied, faking the most honest smile I could, looking into his alluring gray eyes.

Without saying a word, Matt took his leather jacket off, spreading it across my shoulders, rubbing both of my arms, and pulling me against his chest. His two strong arms wrapped around me in a tight hug that soothed my distress before it deepened even further.

We were married for seventy-two hours, and I was already in trouble.

???

We headed back to the hotel in silence again after watching the sunset, both of us deeply lost in thought.

I ordered room service for later on and changed into something a little more comfortable while Matt had to attend a couple of short meetings. I had dozed off while waiting, and I figured it was way past dinner time when I woke up, my stomach grumbling in contempt.

The food I’d ordered was untouched. Matt hadn’t eaten anything either.

I searched the dimly lit room and found him in nothing but his jeans, lying on the couch, his perfectly toned back alluring me to run my hands down it.

Quietly, I walked over to him, admiring his sculptured figure before I gently touched him to wake him up.

“Matt!” I shook him, calling his name without success, repeating the process twice. “Matt!” I whisper-shouted, shaking him a little harder.

Before I could call him again, he harshly turned around and grabbed my wrist.

Matt tackled me to the ground, making me fall with a loud thud as his body pinned me beneath him. My breathing quickened from the fright of his unexpected action while my heart thumped strongly in my chest.
