“He knows I’m yours. He will not push any boundaries. Alison and Jamie can come along and learn a couple of things, too, if that makes you feel better.” I reasoned, placing small pecks on his cheeks. Matt had been working so hard that he didn’t really have much free time to train with me.

“It doesn’t.” He sighed deeply. “But you’re right. We need to keep up those training sessions. You need to know how to defend yourself in case something ever happens.” He replied with his eyes shut. Those words probably hurting more than a bee sting.

“I promise I’ll be careful if you promise you’ll be too.” I pulled his face down so he was looking straight into my eyes. I knew that when the time came, if he had to take stupid, uncalculated risks, he would. And I didn’t want that. “Promise?”

“I promise!”

Chapter 28

Francesca

For the first time in almost a month, I felt free. Going out with Alison and Jamie yesterday allowed me to feel more like myself. Not as constricted and caged as I had been feeling. I was very well aware of the risk, but our life is full of exactly that. Risks.

I married a powerful mob boss, soon to be Don, with a freaking seat in The Commission. When will I ever be free of risks and threats and danger?

There will never be a moment in our lives when we can be totally and completely at peace and conflict-free. Look at what happened to my sweet and innocent cousin, Amelia. She was as far as she could be from all of this, and she was still a fatality of this life. She still died because of it.

After Matt’s ceremony, after he was officially a Don, we would have a lot more power and a much larger target on our backs, coming from all directions. Police, other mob gangs like the Yakuza, small backstabbing people just like Gio, and everyone that might think they have anything to gain from our pain.

But if there was anyone in this strange choice of a life that could handle it, it was Matt. I haven’t known him for long, but all that I’d seen was more than enough for me to understand what a strong and powerful leader he is.

He has one of the most important things needed – the loyalty and trust of his men because he, himself, is loyal to them, too.

I would never in my life have the opportunity to lead a family, to take the oath of Omertà, to be a Don. Our world, exactly as the real world, was sexist and chauvinist. Women are always backstaged to a more conservative role because we are always perceived as weaker, less capable, and soft.

But I was confident that I lacked nothing compared to any other mob boss.

Physical weakness wasn’t even an issue. Most of those old, fat, bald Dons couldn’t outrun me if they trained for a whole year. Besides, that is why we have people. To deal with those issues for us.

Brains and tactics are much more important.

Perseverance and knowledge.

Loyalty and honor.

Anyway, it didn’t matter. It never would.

I would never be one of them. I’d given up on that dream long ago because, at the end of the day, I am what I am, and I am who I am. No regrets.

I had run my idea of training together by the girls, and they loved it. We’d be starting Monday because we didn’t want to be all stiff and sore at Jamie’s bachelorette party tonight.

“Ready to go, Babe?” I heard Matt shouting from the living room. “We should have left half an hour ago.”

“Almost!” I yelled back as I was putting my earrings on. “You can’t rush perfection, you know?”

“Your little ass could go in pajamas and still be perfect.” I heard him chuckle.

“Should I change then?” I asked as I came into the living room, leaning sexily against the door frame.

I had chosen a simple black dress that ended just above my knee. It hugged my body, showing off my toned but still curvy figure. My back was bare until just above my butt, showing more skin than I normally did.

I tried harder than normal because I knew Matt would be looking and only looking.

Both he and Liam were banned from the VIP area by Alison. I didn’t know what it was about her, but it was like she ran the show. The baby sister that had both of her big bad criminal brothers wrapped around her little finger. It was hilarious and heartwarming in equal measure.

“Fuck, Francesca. I’m not sure I should be letting you leave the house like that. It’s illegal to look that fucking hot!” Matt cursed as he came closer to me, grabbing my waist and pulling me against him, making me collide with that strong, hard chest of his.

“Good thing we’re used to illegal things. But no touching, Baby, no touching.” I teased him, trying to pull away from his stronghold on my hips, just resulting in a tighter grip as he ground his already fully erect cock into me.
