Suddenly, I felt a pair of hands hugging my waist, making me turn abruptly to see who it was. I was light-headed but not drunk enough to forget my present predicament. My eyes almost jumped out of their sockets as I saw him. All the muscular, sun-kissed skin, dark eyes, dark hair, six-foot-three of him.

“Oh my God! I can’t believe it’s you!” I squealed as I hugged him tightly.

Before I could even squeeze tight enough, I felt him being yanked out of my arms. The two men now involved in a violent fistfight.

“You have to have a real fucking nerve to come here, Jax!” Matt yelled as soon as he got a good and firm stance, punching him straight in the nose, making him fall to the ground, blood cascading heavily down his nose.

“Shit, Jackson, are you okay?” I quickly kneeled in front of him, desperately trying to stop the bleeding.

“WAIT. WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?”

Chapter 29

Matt

“WAIT. WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?”

At first, I thought I might have heard wrong from the constant loud thumping of the music.

But I didn’t.

How the hell, in this fucked up small world, was it possible that my wife not only knew but dated my backstabbing fucker ex-best friend? Even as I tried to stop it, my mind drifted to all the other things they had done together.

He was airplane sex dream, Jackson.

Her ex-fucking-boyfriend, Jackson.

Never in my right mind would I have guessed that he Jax fucking Naoki.

“FRANCESCA!!” I called her, shouting above the sound, my voice coming out as a low-toned, menacing grumble.

“What the hell is wrong with you? Why did you attack him like that?” She countered, her own anger dripping from her words. But still, she didn’t move from her spot, crouched down in front of him, helping that motherfucker.

“What the hell is wrong with ME? Your husband was just in a fucking fistfight because of you, and you are kneeling in front of the other guy, helping HIM, and you are asking what the hell is wrong with ME?” I yelled over the music, my anger quickly boiling up to the surface.

There was no amount of self-control that would resist the fury coursing through me right now.

“You’re standing and apparently fine. He’s draining himself in blood over here.” Francesca replied, never deviating her full attention from him. “Can someone bring me napkins? A cloth? Something!” She yelled frantically.

I saw Jax’s hand cupping her face, a stupid smile under all that blood, as Francesca leaned into his caress, smiling back at him. The sheer sight of them made my stomach churn.

“Suits him right. He’s not welcome here. And besides, it seems like it still wasn’t enough for him to learn his lesson and keep his filthy hands off of what’s mine.”

“You can’t go around attacking my friends like this. And I’m not yours, Matt. I’m not a fucking object that you own.”

I swallowed her words like blades. They cut and slashed every damn thing at their passage.

“I see,” I hissed after a short pause, allowing me to take all that information in before turning and leaving them both on the floor. I couldn’t stay there watching that shit.

Without even blinking, Francesca had made her choice.

She chose him over me.

That simple little action spoke volumes about where I stood for her. She didn’t even ask me if I was okay. If I was hurt. But now I was.

“MATT!” I heard her yell out my name, but I didn’t shift my attention from my path.

The fucking colored lights of the club flashed in sync with the music, blinding my eyes. Maybe it was the light that shone on my current situation that blinded me. Clouded my mind. Distorted my feelings.
