It felt as if I walked into some alternative reality, where my past never happened, only to be replaced with wonderful memories of the boy who reminded me of the girl I once used to be. Since being at the clubhouse with Eugene, I’d never laughed so much. I could feel myself slowly becoming the girl I was once before.

“I see that smile.” Henley grinned, taking a seat next to me at one of the tables in the main room. Seeing Charlie in her arms, I reached for the little boy. She happily handed him over.

Little Charlie was such a sweet baby, and I adored him. Part of me wondered what my life would be like if I’d never met and married John, but the second I did, I knew I’d never have Benny or Sean. I couldn’t imagine my life without them. My boys were my world. I was nothing without them.

“You ever think about having another one?”

Looking up from the bundle in my arms, I frowned. “Lidi tied my tubes. You know that.”

“That’s right. Tied, not removed. It’s an easy surgery, Sugar.”

Sighing, I shook my head. “No. I’ve got Benny and Sean. They are enough.”

“What does Enigma want?”

“What does Eugene have to do with this? We’re just friends.”

Henley looked down at her hands. “No, he’s not, and you know it. That man is smitten with you. Why are you fighting the inevitable? We all know that you two will end up together.”

“There is no me and Eugene. Like I said, we’re just friends.”

Henley leaned forward, whispering, “Stop it, Sugar. Stop lying to yourself. Enigma loves you and you love him. Enigma is not John Stanley and never will be. You had a crap life. I get that, but you have a chance to have your happily ever after. Don’t let your fear of the past stop you from grabbing what is right in front of you. I know you’re curious. I’ve seen you look at him, wondering what life would be like. You’ll never know unless you try.”

Looking across the room, I saw Eugene working behind the bar, laughing at something Pyro and Gunner said. Almost as if sensing me staring at him, he looked over and winked.

“He deserves better.”

“Better than you?” she challenged.

I nodded.

“You are what he wants, Sugar, and that makes you the most perfect girl in the world for him. You just need to believe in yourself. You are worth it, sweetie. You deserve love just as much as he does,” she stated before adding, “Now, I didn’t come over here to lecture you. King said it would be okay for you to go with all of us to the ultrasound appointment today. Us girls thought you’d like to get out of this place, since you’ve been cooped up in here for weeks now. If you want some fresh air.”

Smiling, I whispered, “I’d love to go.”

“Good.” She grinned. “Now give me back Charlie, before Frank comes and gets him, and go get ready. We’re leaving in an hour. I’ve got to help Scribe find Cameron. I fear for Bailey and Skylar, because if Cameron doesn’t get at least one boy today, I think we’re all going to hear it.”

Truer words had never been spoken.

Chapter Thirteen

Sugar

I’d never laughed so much in my life.

While Cameron was semi-satisfied, the rest of the brothers and their significant others were elated. Me included.

Bailey was having a little girl, and Skylar, Cameron’s sister, was having a boy.

“We need to celebrate,” Dev shouted happily, hugging her sister Henley. Henley was also pregnant, but it was way too early to know what she was having. Claudia too.

“Yes.” Sarah nodded. “I’m not pregnant. I can drink now.”

“Nope.” Gunner smirked, kissing his wife’s head. “Not yet, Babydoll. Gotta be twenty-one.”

“Oh, come on,” Sarah huffed. “You let me have a beer at the clubhouse.”

“That’s because you are home and not in public,” King stated firmly. “Twenty-one, Sarah, and not a day sooner.”
