“Eugene, back away. Let Sugar go.”

Ignoring my sister, I stepped closer to Sugar. “I don’t give a flying fuck who you’ve been with, woman. I don’t care if you fucked the entire Dallas Cowboys football team. Don’t you get it? I’m in love with you. I have been since we were kids, and if you are too fucking chicken shit to admit the same, then you are not the woman I believed you to be.”

The second I said the words, I knew I crossed a line. So, when the love of my life gasped and ran from the room, I let loose all my anger and frustration. I didn’t know what more she wanted from me. I gave her everything I was and more. Whatever set her off steeled her resolve.

Sugar Anne Potter would never accept my claim.

“Fuck this shit!” I shouted, walking away. “I’m done! Find someone else to protect her.”

Heading back upstairs, I kicked open my bedroom door to find Banks and Hawk standing in my room.

“The whole clubhouse heard,” Hawk stated what I already knew.

“What do you need?” Banks asked.

“Someone texted or called her. Find out who the fuck it was.”

“What are you going to do?” Banks questioned.

“I’m going to find whoever is threatening her and end them,” I firmly said, reaching for my phone, dialing a number I thought I’d never have to call.

“Been a long time, Enigma. How can Harbor Security help you?”

“I need you to turn on the security cameras in my house. I need twenty-four hour surveillance. The shop as well.”

“Person of interest?”

“Sugar Anne Potter.”

“The children?”

“With their grandparents in Louisiana. They won’t be a problem. Just send me the bill. I’ll pay it.”

“No charge, Enigma. Consider this a thank you for what your club did for my goddaughter.”

“Matthew?”

“Yeah?”

“If anything happens, make sure King gets the video.”

“What are you planning to do, Enigma?”

“Promise me.”

“Give you my word, brother.”

“Thank you, Law,” I said, hanging up the phone to find Banks and Hawk staring at me.

“Jesus fuck, Enigma,” Banks whispered in awe. “Does King know you have Harbor Security watching Sugar’s house and shop?”

“Wasn’t taking any chances when the courts gave that fucker fifteen to life. I knew shit happened all the time, and I was right to do what I did. Fucker is out, and with Sugar going home, I want her protected. Woman fucking thinks I’m just gonna roll over and walk away, then she never knew me at all. I claimed her. She’s mine.”

Chapter Fifteen

Sugar

It was after midnight when I heard someone lightly knocking on my back door. I really wasn’t in the mood for visitors tonight. Seeing the pain I caused Eugene hurt me more than I thought it would. He didn’t deserve the vitriol I spewed. He wasn’t listening to me, and I couldn’t get that text out of my head. I’d caused enough problems already. I didn’t want to cause anymore.
