“Because I drove my father wherever he needed to go.”

“Kind of hard to do that now, since he died last year, Jane,” Sarah stated firmly, crossing her arms across her chest. “Unless you believe in ghosts and he’s standing right next to you. But I wouldn’t advertise that. This town is kinda funny about that woo-woo shit.”

“Bitch, if you don’t shut the hell up,” Jane snarked, angrily confronting my woman. “Why don’t you do this town a favor and just fucking leave and take your bastard children with you?”

“Watch it, Jane,” I growled.

Jane turned to me and shouted, “What are you going to do about it, Cord? This whole town knows that fucking tramp you married spread her legs for anyone. I’d get a DNA test to be sure. Once a slut, always a slut.”

“Don’t need a fucking DNA test, since all three of my kids look just like my husband.”

I smiled proudly at that.

“And, just so we’re clear, I’ve only ever spread my legs for my husband, unlike you, who spreads for anyone with a pulse,” my woman angrily retorted. “And if you ever mention my children again, you will not like what happens next, bitch.”

“Oh please, like I’m afraid of the slutty social upstart. That college boyfriend of yours should have sold your slutty ass sooner!”

“Everyone needs to calm down,” Mike growled.

“She started it, Mr. Brewer,” Fiona spoke up, moving closer to Banks, who was grinning from ear to ear, watching the show. “We were just helping the guys when she came over and started yelling.”

“Look, you little runaway whore. You better stay the fuck out of this, or I will make your life a living hell.”

“Is that a threat?” Sarah clipped, getting right up in Jane’s face.

“It’s a fucking promise.”

“Does that make you feel powerful that you have to threaten a young girl? You are nothing but a hateful, abusive bitch, just like your dead brother.”

Before anyone could stop her, Jane hauled off and slapped my woman across the face.

No one moved as Sarah grabbed her cheek, then slowly turned to face the irate cunt.

“Sarah, don’t do it,” Mike growled, but he wasn’t fast enough, because in the next second, I watched my woman haul off and punch the bitch in the face, knocking her to the ground.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Enigma

After a hellacious and somewhat comical week of drama, Rosewood’s town council eventually notified the club by certified mail that they requested King’s presence on a personal matter that needed to be discussed.

We all knew what that matter was.

When King called to verify the meeting, he was told it was a closed hearing and that only his presence would be needed. Apparently, the town wanted to keep this matter quiet and not make the issue public.

So, King ordered the entire clubhouse to attend.

Even the wives and children.

He even had Scribe announce the town council meeting on the town’s tourist Facebook page. When the residents and business owners learned of a closed town hall meeting, they let their displeasure be known, and now it was open to the public.

Everyone was going to be there.

By the time the club arrived, the town hall was spilling over with residents and business owners, all wanting to know what the hell was going on.

“But I don’t understand why me, or the boys, have to be here,” Sugar whispered, squeezing my hand tightly while I escorted her through the throngs of people.

“Because King ordered us to be here,” I said for the hundredth time, finding us a seat. “Boys, sit and don’t start any shit.”
