On the other hand, it was probably a good thing since he wouldn’t have to convince her to let him go or worry about rearranging the schedule.

That was going to all fall on Egan since it seemed the decision wasn’t his to make.

“She was informed of everything this morning. Hunter asked her to hold off contacting you until you were done for the night as we were getting everything set. As far as I know, Hailey has all the paperwork now and is reviewing it. We’ll get our copies to look over in the morning and sign, then Egan will take off for Santa Monica.”

“California,” he said. Across the country and not a place he ever saw himself going.

“Yep,” Egan said. “Where you will enjoy a week away with your girlfriend. It might be less. They are going to film the whole competition in that week but spread it out over several weeks for viewing. If she’s eliminated early, you’ll be back.”

“She won’t be,” he said. “Not if this is for family.”

“She said the same thing,” Mitchell said.

“Another benefit to our family,” Egan said. “You get to take the family jet there and back. Making flight arrangements this short of notice is going to be a pain in the ass and more time traveling than needed.”

“Grace isn’t going to like having that advantage,” he said.

“She didn’t fight it when she was told due to the last minute addition it was a good fourteen hours of travel time going coach.”

He shivered. “Yeah, not fun. The flight time has to be half that.”

“About six hours,” Egan said. “I’m heading over and staying the night. With the time change, we’ll get there with a few hours to spare for Hailey, Hunter and Charlie to meet and hand the papers over. We couldn’t get our pilot last minute for this.”

Which explained why Egan was flying the jet there.

“I’ll sign whatever I need to,” Lincoln said. “Do you need anything else from me?”

“No,” Mitchell said.

The three of them walked out together, he and Egan going to their helicopters to fly back to the island. “Sorry about dropping this on you.”

“Not a problem. I’d want to be with her anyway and this avoids the fight.”

“There is that,” Egan said. “Race you back?”

“Like I’ve got a chance against your baby,” he said but took off running for his helicopter before Egan.

“No fair. I can’t run in these.”

“Then don’t wear Birks,” he shouted and was lifting up before Egan could even get his helicopter started. It wouldn’t matter, Egan would pass him soon enough, but he appreciated his buddy lightening the mood.

When he landed he’d shoot a text off to Grace and see how she felt about all of this and then ask if she’d be willing to meet his parents before they could form an opinion about her based on editing of the producers.

He could only hope the two of them could weather the next few weeks because he wasn’t as confident as everyone else that his being with Grace was a good thing.

FAMILY ACCEPTANCE

Four days later, Grace found herself climbing into Lincoln’s helicopter. “How are you feeling about everything?” she asked.

She was still trying to wrap her mind around everything that had been happening.

All the legal documents were signed and delivered on Thursday. Lincoln had given his parents a heads-up. They were excited for him and thrilledtheywouldn’t be on TV.

Her parents said the same thing. Her mother was happy for the exposure to the island but wanted no part of being filmed.

The fact if she won this, people would be looking into her family more would give her mother’s business a bit of a lift, but it wasn’t enough for Melanie Stone to step out into the limelight any more than it would be for some of her other family.
