“We do,” he said.

Though something told her that might not be the case. She’d just have to play it all by ear.

A HOT GUY

“Ineed this,” Grace said at the end of the day on Monday. She and Lincoln were sitting on her beach and she was in shorts, a tank top, barefoot and had a large glass of wine in her hand. This was what dreams were made of in her mind. A hot guy and a glass of wine.

Lincoln stretched his long legs out in front of him. They were sitting in Adirondack chairs around a little fire she had by the beach. She didn’t have a lot of beach space but more than enough for her.

Being on the Atlantic Ocean side, her house was sitting higher up and she had to walk down. Better for flooding during storms.

“Tell me how it went for you,” he said. “Then I can fill you in on what Egan told me when he got back to the airstrip.”

“It was just a long day,” she said. “It’s all happening so fast. I spent most of the time this weekend making sure the kitchen was in its best shape all the while cooking in it.”

“I’m sure it always is,” he said.

“For the most part,” she said. “But this means more. They filmed me making some dishes and talking to my staff. I had to present one of my favorite dishes to them when it was done.”

He laughed. “Did they film you making the whole thing and what did you make?”

“Yes,” she said. “I had to keep a smile on my face and that isn’t easy. I was focusing on what I was doing since it was being filmed and in the back of my head I was hoping no one swore in the background.”

She was more concerned it wasn’t her that swore as she was known to do under her breath.

“I’m sure they can edit that stuff out,” he said.

“No one did,” she said. “And I made a duck dish. This is silly, but I used some of the vegetables from your mother’s garden for them. I doubt she’ll know that, but it felt good to do. And they were just so big and vibrant looking. The best I had in my kitchen.”

“She’ll know because I’ll tell her and she’ll eat that up. That was very kind of you to do.”

She wasn’t sure what made her bring them with her today, but she’d felt so comfortable on Lincoln’s parents’ farm yesterday and she wanted some of that to remind her of the joy she found in what she did. Maybe she wanted to think of the sexy pilot who cared as much for his family as she did hers. The one that tattooed a symbol of family memories on his body to remind her that she was doing this for her family.

“Now I’m embarrassed,” she said.

“Don’t be.” He was grinning at her and she just shrugged. Nothing more she could do. “I’ve never had duck before,” he said.

“We make it a lot. It’s not often requested at weddings, but you’d be surprised what some people want. It’s been known to happen.”

She wanted to make sure that the dish she presented showed her skill and plating finesse. All the while she was answering questions during the lunch rush going on around them.

She’d asked to see what was filmed and they said they couldn’t. That was the most frustrating part for her.

She liked to have things under her control and nothing that was going to happen would be.

“What else did they film?” he asked.

“Hunter, Hailey and Uncle Charlie were on site the whole time watching everything. Hailey is going to be a hawk. I think if she didn’t have the baby, she’d want to go to California instead of you.”

She loved her cousin for her fierce protection of the family legacy, but she had this and told them that. She just wished she felt more confident that they believed her.

“Your cousins can be intimidating,” he said.

Grace took another sip of her wine and smirked. “It runs in our family. It’s in the blood.”

“It is.”
