“You’re not anymore,” his father said.

“Mom, Dad, this is Grace Stone. Grace, my mother, Katy, and my father, Brice.”

She moved forward and shook hands with them both. “Your gardens from above are spectacular. I told Lincoln I wished I had the space and the time to have a garden.”

“Lincoln told me that,” Katy said. “If you two have time, we can walk through them. I always have too much and freeze a ton to cook for later. I’d love if you would take what you want. It will do my heart well to know you are feeding my son food from my garden.”

That just made her heart swell like never before. “I’d love to,” she said.

They went in the house and Lincoln handed the papers to his parents and explained everything to them. She jumped in a few times when they had questions and assured them they wouldn’t be on TV but since there was a chance Lincoln would be they had to cover their bases.

“They’ve got to make sure that if I tell you the outcome, you don’t tell anyone else,” Lincoln said.

“You wouldn’t tell us,” Katy said. “Lincoln locks things in tight and there is no way to get them out unless he wants to tell you. And if he signed something saying he won’t, it won’t happen. Lincoln takes those things seriously. He’s loyal that way.”

“Thanks for making me sound like a dog,” he said to his mother.

“I think it’s nice and I know those traits myself,” Grace said. “But it’s hard to keep things like this to yourself. Especially when you’re excited. I’ll admit I wasn’t thrilled when I found out Lincoln was going but was happy after. I’ll need someone to vent to.”

“Grace is hard on herself,” he said. “I’ve been told more than once that someone will have to talk her down.”

“Who told you that?” she asked to turn to him.

He put his fingers to his lips. “No comment.”

She squinted her eyes at him and when his parents laughed, she knew that there was probably no chance she was going to get an answer out of him.

It couldn’t be her mother or father. They would have told her they said something.

So that left two people.

Hunter. And she didn’t see her cousin saying that.

Or her grandfather. Since her grandfather flew back and forth from Boston to the island, there was a good chance Lincoln might have seen him.

She’d figure it out on her own.

When the paperwork was cleared up, she and Lincoln visited for a few hours and then flew back home with a huge crate of vegetables that she’d picked out of the garden. She loved that she was off for the next two days. She knew the film crews were coming to the island today and tomorrow would start filming. Most of tomorrow would be spent running around, but she’d cook some tonight and then more on Monday and a lot on Tuesday.

“I’ll make up for you not getting food from your mother today,” she said.

“She gave me a lot,” he said.

“Not like she normally does,” she argued. “She didn’t have enough time to stock you up.”

“I don’t think she feels the need to do it as much since I’ve got you.”

“Yeah,” she said. “You’ve got me. Remember that.”

She said it firmly and his smile dropped. “I know it,” he said. “Why so serious?”

“Just wanted you to know it’s not always about fun and games. Didn’t want you to get any ideas in your head is all.”

It seemed to be the time to say it, without getting too deep of a conversation.

“I could say the same to you,” he said.

She nodded. “Then we understand each other well.”
