She raised a brow.

“Let’s get married first in a quick ceremony here and then go to the US and call it our honeymoon.”

Fee stared at me.

I’d caught her completely off guard. But I should’ve expected my princess to regain her composure much faster than I thought she would.

She cocked her head. “Not much of a romantic, are you?” she said, her voice laced with laughter and a good amount of tease. “You promised you’d at least go down on your knee and beg me to marry you. A ring would’ve been nice, too.”

I ignored the chuckles from Matt and Gabe.

I raised a single brow, stepped closer, and locked my eyes with hers. “You know what happens to sassy little princesses?”

Her eyes widened beautifully before she shut down her reactions and rolled her eyes.

I kissed her nose. “They get exactly what they wish for.”

Her eyes widened, and my heart swelled with love for this woman who had become my rock and my reason for living. In her presence, I felt alive and truly happy.

I pulled the box out of my pocket and dropped down on one knee before her.

“Fiona Aoife Donnelly,” I began, my voice steady despite the rapid pounding of my heart, “will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”

As I held out the box, I watched as her beautiful face crumpled with emotion. Tears welled up in her eyes and spilled over onto her cheeks, leaving glistening trails in their wake.

Sophie squealed somewhere behind me, but I kept my eyes locked on the love of my life.

“Alex,” she whispered, her voice choked with emotion. “Yes. Yes, I’ll marry you.”

The world seemed to fade away as I took her trembling hand and slid the ring onto her finger. It fit perfectly like she fit me perfectly.

Every doubt, every fear, every ounce of uncertainty vanished in that moment, to be replaced by the overwhelming certainty that this woman was meant to be mine.

We were meant to be together.

I rose to my feet, pulled her into my arms, and sealed the deal with a passionate kiss.

Her lips crashed against mine with a force.

We both pulled back.

Love and need was making her eyes shine. That and the unspoken understanding that we were not only pledging our love but were also making a promise to use all our combined strength to face whatever trials lay ahead of us—together.

“I love you,” I whispered.

She wrapped her arms tighter around my neck as I hugged her waist and lifted her up until we were face to face and there was no space left between us.

A slow smile spread over her face.

I couldn’t even believe the relief and joy I was feeling right at this moment. No matter what would happen from here on out, with my princess by my side, we would be okay.

I sealed my lips against hers, and soon, our kiss grew more heated, more urgent, fueled by the fire that always seemed to burn just beneath the surface when we were together.

The warmth of her body pressed against mine calmed me, while the rapid rise and fall of her chest as her breath mingled with my own fired me up.

“At this rate, I have the feeling I should let you have the bed.” Matt’s voice penetrated my stupor of happiness.

And apparently Fee’s stupor, too.
