Not even breathing.

Nobody said a word. The girls’ eyes were on her…the men’s on me.

I noticed the pressure in my jaw and forced myself to unclamp it. I stared at Gabe, unblinking.

He looked stunned, angry, and concerned at the same time—probably the same as everyone else.

An inferno of fury swept through my veins and left me vibrating. I wanted to kill every single one of them…would kill every single one.

I would skin them alive, let rats eat their flesh, and then feed them into a meat grinder, slowly, inch by fucking inch. They would be in so much agony, they would wish they were never born. I could almost taste it on my tongue.

And then I looked down at Fee’s crown.

She still wasn’t moving.

I turned Fee’s chair with a loud screech, crouched down before her, and cupped her chin. “Look at me, princess.”

Her eyes moved, but she still wasn’t breathing. At least not that I could determine.

“I want you to inhale twice, then exhale. It’s called a physiological sigh—best to calm down your nervous system.” I demonstrated what I meant.

“Do you understand?”

She nodded.

“Then do it with me.”

We breathed together. I’d read about it when I researched panic attacks on the car ride earlier. Allegedly, it should work, though it barely calmed me.

We stayed that way for a while until Fee looked marginally better—still white as white marble, still frozen, but not so stoney anymore.

“Alex.” I could feel Matt’s hand on my arm.

I looked up, took in his burning eyes, then nodded. Then I straightened, lifted Fee out of her chair and into my arms, and cradled her against my chest.

She was limp.

I turned to leave, with Matt leading the way, but stopped and turned to Gabe.

“Find me, those bastards,” I growled, my voice hoarse and cracking.

Gabe nodded once. My brother would find them for me, but he knew better than anyone not to touch them.

They were mine.

Mine to punish. Mine to torture. Mine to kill.

I carried Fee to her room, which Matt opened with the master key.

“You can leave,” I said, then crossed the room and sat down on the bed with her on my lap.

She didn’t so much as flinch.

I looked up when Matt, instead of leaving, closed the door from the inside and stepped into the room.

Our gazes locked, concern etched into his face.

I raised a brow.
