“How about a hot bath? Wouldn’t that be nice?” Matt said, and Fee’s head snapped up and almost knocked against my chin.

“It’s hotter than hell. Do you really think I need a hot bath?”

Matt shoved his hands in his pockets and stared at his toes.

I smiled—my feisty little princess.

Then Matt’s head snapped up. “Ice cream and a romcom. That’s the right answer. I know it.”

I snorted with laughter.

He looked and acted like a little overeager puppy. Not like the killer he was. I could feel the vibrations of Fee’s chuckle against my chest.

Thank God. Then she nodded. Apparently, Matt was right.

“You got any sisters?” Fee asked.

“Two younger sisters, twins. Isabella and Mirabella. They’ve been a pain in my ass ever since they hit puberty.”

Fee nodded. “You’re a good brother.”

“What? Because I know ice cream makes everything better?” He chuckled. “You should see Alex throwing a pity party. He uses a ladle instead of a spoon.”

I narrowed my eyebrows and stared him down. “Shut it,” I said with my best menacing voice.

He just grinned back at me without a speck of remorse.

Fee leaned back against my arm, then looked up at me with a grin. “Got any preferences on the romcom?”

Matt snorted with laughter.

Hell.

To see Fee feeling better, I was willing to be the brunt of the jokes all day long.

“Let’s go with something with Sandra Bullock. She’s my favorite. Come to think of it, there are some similarities.”

“Between me and Sandra?” Fee said.

“No, between her and Matt,” I said, glaring at my best friend and raising a challenging brow while secretly reveling in Fee’s laughter.

The day Matt beat me at trash-talking was the day I needed to hang up my hat and become a DJ.

Oh, wait.

Maybe that would be a feasible career path for a washed-up Mafioso who had lost his family’s name.

DJ Aimless. It had a certain ring to it.

CHAPTER NINETEEN

The movie played on the screen, casting flickering shadows across the hotel room. I was curled up on the bed between Alex and Matt.

I couldn’t believe it… like seriously.

I’d been good at dealing with what had happened the past couple of months.

Well, not good, but I’d managed.
