“After touching? Sex. Biting could buy us another few days. Maybe a week.”

I nodded.

Biting still sounded hot, so I wasn’t against it.

We’d get to it after breakfast.

I forced myself to take another bite of my food, trying hard to ignore the next wave of pain that was coming on—and the insane amount I was sweating. The bralette and spandex shorts I had on were damp, and not for a fun reason.

August’s foot hooked one of the legs of my chair, and he dragged me closer.

I was struggling to chew and swallow the food in my mouth when his hands caught my waist—and lifted me onto his lap.

My mostly-bare back met his chiseled chest, and the intimate contact eased the pain just a little more.

“You’re burning up.” The concern in his voice made me feel good. Or at least, it made me want to feel good.

“I’m okay.”

He ignored me, his hands gliding slowly over my abdomen and hips. More physical contact did help a little, but not enough to make the difference I wanted.

“Keep eating.”

I sighed, but forced another bite into my mouth.

I knew from experience that August would get growly if I didn’t eat enough. And while I liked him growly, he wouldn’t take no for an answer if it got to that point, so arguing was useless.

His hands continued moving over my abdomen and hips while I forced a few more bites down. Heat’s magic was intense enough that it was a huge struggle.

August’s lips brushed the back of my neck as I took yet another bite.

I shivered in response.

He’d been doing that a lot—kissing the back of my neck.

I hadn’t thought much about it. Most of my thoughts were occupied by my schoolwork and surviving heat.

When I managed to get that bite down, I nearly gagged.

My fork went down beside the plate.

I couldn’t eat any more.

“You’re alright, Fireball.” August’s voice was low, with an edge of a growl. “Put your hands on the table.”

Though I didn’t know why he’d given the instruction, I grabbed the edge of the wood.

His lips brushed the back of my neck once again—and I gasped when his teeth replaced them a heartbeat later.

A dragon’s bite wasn’t like a vampire’s.

It wasn’t pain, followed by lusty bliss.

It wasn’t a bite to my jugular, searching for blood.

It was so much better.

His magic rolled through me, a wave of power.
