“Uh, where is the frat house?” I ask, unsure of what else to say.
My hormones are already raging—it only makes everything all the more confusing.
Sonia…
“Oh, it’s just off of Lincoln Way—you know, in the Greek district,” the girl giggles. “You must be a freshman. Do you play football?”
Her eyes wander up my arms and I have to bite down on my tongue.
Is she really interested? In me?
“No…” I mumble.
“Well, maybe you should start. Our team is shit and they could use one or two big strong boys like you. I’m Allison, by the way.”
She reaches out her petite hand and I hesitate to take it. In the back of my head, all I can hear is Sonia’s vengeful voice.
Are you mine, or should I find someone else?
Fuck. She’s yelled that at me more times than I can remember—but then she goes and says something about bagging a rich boy, and none of it makes sense anymore.
Why am I so fucking loyal?
I’ve never gone after anyone else before—and I’ve had plenty of chances.
Maybe it’s about time I change that.
“Ray,” I nod, finally taking her hand.
Allison’s skin is so soft and warm that it makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
“Nice to meet you, Ray,” Allison smiles. “Will I see you tonight?”
Immediately, I regret giving her my real name. In the mafia, that’s a serious faux pas.
But I’m also quickly coming down with a serious case of ‘fuck it’.
Sonia has abandoned me. There’s no point in sitting around, feeling sorry about it.
I can be reckless with her heart, too… right?
“You just might,” I say, giving Allison my best smirk. “… You just might.”

If I didn’t feel comfortable on campus during the day, then I definitely don’t feel at home on fraternity row at night.
Still, the darkness has always been a kind of friend to me, and I find relief in the shadows as I skulk towards the blaring music coming from the run-down mansion at the far end of the block.
The closer I get, the more nervous I become. I’m used to being in places I don’t belong. Hell, part of my job is showing up uninvited. But this is different.
This isn’t a job.
This is for fun.
I’m not exactly used to the idea. My life has never been fun, and I definitely never expected to end up at a college party. Kids like me don’t go to university. Hell, kids like me don’t even finish high school.
It would be a miracle if I did.
