Somehow, he just barely manages to control himself.

Still, the thick underground air crackles with intensity. Tytus stares down the barrel of my gun like he’s ready to do something stupid.

But before he can, something stirs behind him.

“She’s not yours to marry.”

The voice is like broken glass. It’s harsh and disjointed and eerie. But no matter how jarring the sound is, nothing prepares me for the face that accompanies it.

It’s like seeing a ghost.

No. Not a ghost. A demon.

To my utter shock, Dragomir Raclaw slips out of the darkness behind Tytus.

I can’t believe my eyes.

He might as well be a walking corpse. His pale skin is practically translucent beneath the bulb swinging above him. His arms are thin, bony, and covered in worn tattoos and faded scars.

His dead eyes are sunken and empty.

But the gun he has pointed at me is held with a strength that can’t be ignored.

I’m so stunned, I hardly even react as Tytus takes the opportunity to rip out a gun of his own.

All of a sudden, I have two weapons directed at me, and they’re both wielded by notorious killers.

There’s nowhere to run for cover.

Fuck.

“What the hell are you doing here, coward?” I sneer at Drago. My feet dig into the ground as I prepare for the fight of my life.

“Making up for lost time,” the ghost responds.

With that, Drago clicks down on his safety, ready to shoot me where I stand.

There’s no way I can beat both of them to the draw.

So, I do the only thing that can save my life.

I turn my gun on Rozalia.

“Easy there, cowboy,” I threaten. “Let’s not turn this tunnel into a graveyard.”

Neither of these fuckers need to know I’d never pull the trigger. I just need to buy a little time.

I just need Rozalia to get a little closer.

“I dare you,” Tytus growls.

“Double-doggy dare?”

“This isn’t a fucking joke.”

“Did I say it was?”

To my surprise, Rozalia lifts a shaky arm, blocking off Tytus’ barrel with the back of her hand.
