“No. Not at all. I just have to chat with the guy who takes care of the insurance paperwork. Totally boring for you. Go take a last look in town, and I’ll meet you.”

She rolled her eyes. “Okay. Fine. I’ll meet you at the bank.” She would have been happy to wait around and listen to him chat about insurance or really anything, even if Hunter thought it would be boring, just to stay in his presence. But she didn’t want to get him into trouble by testing fate or his good judgment.

Lilianna made her way down the wooden sidewalk looking at the amazing scenery. They’d done an amazing job on the construction of this place. If she’d been plopped down into Main Street blindfolded, she might have wondered if she’d been transported back in time.

She walked past the saloon, down some steps, across the dusty alleyway opening, back up another set of a few stairs, and entered the outer vestibule of the bank.

She walked down the hallway, turned two corners, and saw not only the wooden doors, but also what looked like a deputy just coming through from the tunnel. His gaze fixed on her the moment she turned the corner.

Was this the sheriff? Should she run? Hide? Too late.

She stopped short, uncertain what to do as the cowboy’s fierce gaze remained on her face.

Eventually he asked, “Can I help you, ma’am?”

“No. I’m just meeting someone here.”

His eyes narrowed in suspicion. “I’m sorry, but this area is off-limits to customers.”

Crap. Now what?

Lilianna planted a wide smile on her face. “Well, I’m not exactly a customer.”

His eyebrows rose appreciably. “Is that so? What exactly are you?”

“Well, I’m sort of a…” She started to say guest but didn’t have a ticket. How could she prove it? And what if she got Hunter in even more trouble? She didn’t want that either. She paused not sure what to say. “I’m just visiting.”

“Oh yeah?” He grinned, but amusement didn’t reach his eyes. “Who told you to wait here?”

“I’d rather not say.”

His head tilted to one side. “Really? ’Cause that’s a problem.”

Lilianna started backing away from the door. “Listen, I don’t want anyone to get into trouble.”

“Too late.”

“What?”

“I’ll have to ask you to come with me.” He marched forward, and the jingle of the spurs on his boots made panic rise immediately through her body.

“But I can’t leave.” She looked over one shoulder, willing Hunter to show up and save her.

“Why not?”

“Because, like I said, I’m meeting someone here.”

“You mentioned that.” He moved into her personal space. “Tell me, who is it?”

Lilianna stiffened and shook her head defiantly. She refused to rat out Hunter. “Again, I’d rather not say.”

He motioned her out of the bank. “Sorry, then you’re gonna have to come with me.”

“Where are we going?”

He dangled handcuffs in front of her shocked gaze. “To jail.”

Chapter Nine

Dylan spent the day buried beneath cars and car hoods. Usually, he was very focused, but leaving Lilianna behind this morning while she showered had been more difficult than he’d imagined. He also hadn’t had time for a quickie before coming to work. The image of Lilianna, and the memory of what she sounded like climaxing, was never out of his head for more than a few moments.

Also, wondering what she’d done all day at Old West Town circled his brain. Did she like it? Would she contemplate staying with them for a while? Was she getting as attached to them as he was to her?

He dropped a wrench for a second time and shook his head in frustration. He should call it a day and go home. Part of him dreaded finding out that she’d left the compound and wouldn’t be coming back. Ever. He should have coaxed her into early morning sex before he left and confirmed she planned to stay on.

Watching her cook them breakfast in Hunter’s T-shirt sans panties was almost sexier than her being totally naked.

“Are you finished with that oil change yet?” Gabriel asked from the door to the office, breaking his lust-soaked reverie.
