“Wait…whois coming?” Jennifer asked.

“Frank Shrewry,” I replied. “He’s my private detective.”

“Geez.”

“What?”

“Nothing,” Jennifer said, with a small smile. “It’s just… you have a stalker and a private detective. It’s very billionaire of you.”

I laughed. “You forgot the bodyguard.”

“What?”

“I hired one temporarily,” I admitted. “Just to accompany Jenna and Taylor when they go out alone together and I’m not there.”

“Well, under normal circumstances, I would say that you’re overreacting, but I suppose that makes sense.”

“Taylor wasn’t a huge fan of the idea.”

“I can’t blame her,” Jennifer said. “I’d hate someone shadowing me too.”

“It’s only temporary,” I reminded her. “And their safety is my only priority right now.”

“I see.” Jennifer nodded. “And has your… private detective been able to find out anything that might be helpful?”

“Not so far,” I admitted. “But he claims to have some leads.”

“And you’re sure this guy is legit?”

“I’m not sure about anything at this point,” I sighed. “But I’m trying to do the best I can here. If he can’t give me anything useful in two weeks, I’m firing him and hiring someone else.”

“That’s probably a good call.”

“Yeah.”

“So… apart from all that drama, how are things?” Jennifer asked.

I raised my eyebrows and Jennifer smiled. “I mean, of course, how are things with you and Taylor? Progressing nicely, I hope?”

“Are you rooting for us then?”

“I am actually.” Jennifer nodded. “You’ve been different ever since she came into your life.”

I frowned. “Different how?”

“Less stressed, more relaxed; you seem more connected with Jenna too. It’s as if you needed someone to show you how to be a more involved father. Not that you were neglectful or anything before—”

“That’s kind of you, but we both know I was.”

“Because you were scared of screwing up,” Jennifer pointed out. “Not because you didn’t love Jenna.”

I sighed. “She has made things better all around,” I admitted. “Is it crazy that I’m thinking of building a future with her?”

“Wow… already?”
