The knots in my stomach tightened. Levi had told me not to worry. Not to worry? This little chat wasn’t leading anywhere good. I bit down on the inside of my cheek to resist the urge to vomit.

Levi continued, “With this new album, you really went for it, and you should be damn proud. For a rock band to maintain that level of grit while moving forward, pouring out love songs better than any power ballad I’ve ever heard? It shouldn’t work. But somehow, the combination of the five of you makes it work. It’s important that your music reflects what’s going on in your life, and Surrender does that. I’m proud to stand by you on this album.”

“Oh my God,” Halo said, burying his head in Viper’s back. “Just say it already.”

Levi straightened. “Early numbers are reporting that Surrender sold three million copies in its first week.”

The room went dead silent, no one even breathing as we took in that information. It was a long time, minutes, before someone spoke.

“I think I heard you wrong,” Viper said. “Did you say…three million copies?”

Levi’s face broke into a huge grin. “Yes. Yes, I fucking did.”

Halo’s jaw dropped. “Holy shit. Holy shit.”

As the number finally penetrated our brains, shouts of disbelief and celebration rang out, all while I stood there, completely numb.

“Hey.” Levi moved in front of me, taking my face in his hand. “Did you hear what I said?”

I nodded.

“In shock?”

I nodded again, and Levi laughed, throwing his arms around me as everyone else in the room went nuts. All I could manage to do was hug Levi back, wrapping my arms so tight around his waist that I wondered for a moment how he managed to breathe.

“Oh my God,” I said, repeating it over and over as Levi held me tight. It didn’t seem possible that we’d not only reached Corruption’s first week sales, but surpassed it by a huge margin. And to have done it with all of us contributing, and with songs I’d written about the very man in my arms.

Fuck me, that felt good.

“You happy?” Levi pulled back so he could look at me, that brilliant smile on his face lighting me up inside.

Happy? There needed to be another word for happy, because it didn’t seem like a big enough expression for what I felt. It’d taken so many years to find what I’d needed to make me whole, and between finding the man I never knew to dream for and the current iteration of Fallen Angel, I couldn’t imagine anything I could want more.

It was overwhelming and indescribable, and never in my wildest dreams had I thought love could be this way.

Life, now and forever, with the man in my arms, would always be…perfect.
