a female french voice carried in the breeze. As the world around them
began to return to life, the moment became a slow dance to a French
chanson, and for the moment everything was idyllic.
They began to sway to the tune, before Joe turned him around and sat
him down on a park bench. When he did, the world around them began to
move again but the music persisted.
Jacob wondered if the world had always been this French or if it was
just the moment in time.

“Oh my.” Joe responded.
“What is it?”
“I’m going to be late for work,” he said.
“Isn’t it…Tuesday?”
“God’s work stops for no man.” Joe responded.
“At least you’re in your uniform this time.”
“I’m sure you’ll get me out of it soon enough.” Joe said with a smile.
“Look- would you like to come with me?”
“To church? To a church?”
“I promise you won’t burst into flames.” Joe said. Jacob wasn’t so sure. “I’m not sure that’s a guarantee anymore.”
“It won’t be long. It’s just two hours for a meeting. I promise after that
we’ll be together all night.”
“I mean…If it won’t be long.”
“Okay, perfect. Let’s head off - right after this dance.”
Standing outside the church was intimidating. Joe’s assurances he
wouldn’t burst into flames appeared to be missing one big, crucial component. He was a witch. That seemed pertinent to the bursting into
flames concern, but not enough to get him to confess to this fact. On the way to the church, Jacob had insisted they circle back tohis
apartment to grab a quick snack, and of course Teddy. He wasn’t about to
