The girl of course notices the ink, giving Aly a sly face, “should you go get cleaned up Aly? I can keep your friends entertained while you’re gone.”
I send a message down our pack bond, someone needs to do something before Aly loses it. We have no idea how she’s going to react.
Nic responds,I’m too busy trying to keep Jeremy calm, Aly’s rage is feeding into him.
Aly doesn’t take the bait, but I can audibly hear her grinding her teeth.
The girl just rolls her eyes at Aly then turns back to Jeremy. With a sickly sweet and so very fake voice she says, “so I was wondering if you would want to hang out some time? We could study for this class.”
Aly is out of her seat unnaturally fast and in front of the girl. She grips her arm and bends it at an unnatural angle. It looks like she’s about to break it but hasn’t pushed it quite that hard. How did she know when to stop before breaking it? Either way, if the girl says anything else, I’m sure we will have a broken arm to deal with.
Kiran, Jay and I hop up, immediately and try to stop this from getting any worse. We are in class surrounded by humans. Aly can’t do anything crazy that draws more attention to us.
I grab Aly’s arm and turn her towards me but her eyes are unfocused and she keeps peering back at the girl like she’s prey.
“Hey Aly, it’s okay, look at me,” I say while pumping soothing energy into her system. It’s one of my powers as a light fae and I use it to my advantage now. Her eyes slowly start to clear until I think she can really see me again.
“Jax? What happened?” She asks before slumping a little into my arms. I catch her and bring her over to the nearest seat. She collapses into it immediately, drained from the incident.
I look up to see that Jay and Kiran have gotten the girl to leave and Jeremy is focused on Nic.
“Something supernatural, I’ll explain after class okay?” I whisper.
She nods then holds a hand up to her head in pain. Luckily, it’s not the hand covered in ink. I pull out a tissue and start wiping that hand off. I’m about to ask Nic to heal her, when I glance over and realize he’s pale and weak too.
What happened to Nic while I was calming Aly down?I ask down our bond.
He cast a confusion spell over the whole class, which wiped him out, but he says we need to stay through class otherwise we will redraw attention to ourselves,Jay replies.
“Pass me Aly’s stuff,” I say and when Jay does, I help her get set up between Kiran and I. We don’t want to get up and play musical chairs so we all sit where we left off. There’s a risk Jeremy could get worked up, but I imagine his instincts have calmed down since Aly defended their bond so strongly. It probably just strengthened some from that display, which will be reassuring to both of them.

Aly
We finish up class and I don’t absorb anything the professor says. Hopefully Jax was able to pay attention and can catch me up later. I feel really out of it, after what I’m calling my incident. I think I finally understand what the guys mean when they say their instincts take over. I don’t feel like I had any control over myself when Kate came to talk to Jeremy. My instincts were screaming to neutralize the threat and my body acted without my direction. When I remember it, it’s through a haze, like I really wasn’t the one in control. I think I would have broken her arm or worse, and the crazy thing is, I think I knew how to do it.
We are all wiped, especially Nic and I, so we decide it’s best to just head back to the house instead of the library, like usual. Plus, we need to get away from people so nothing else happens. This bond needs to settle down and fast, we can’t keep living like this. I message Anna asking her to take care of Bailey again so we can go straight back to the house and she quickly agrees.
We all start walking back and I land myself next to Ajax. Of course, Jeremy is on my other side, he hasn’t left it since class ended. After the incident was over, I could feel happiness and content mixed with his worry. Clearly, it felt satisfying to him that I protected our bond so fiercely, even if he was worried about Nic and I.
“Jax, are you okay if we plan to work on the assignment tonight still? At the house?” I ask him. We have a weekly assignment for the computer science class we share. We were paired up and always meet after this class at the library to work on the assignment. The rest of the guys usually tag along, but Jax and I really do need that time.
“Yes, of course. Now that you’re going to be spending more time at the house with all of us, we will probably work on our assignments more casually. Tonight sounds great though.” He reaches over and gives my hand a light squeeze. He goes to pull it away just as fast but I hold on tight. He looks at me in shock but I just smile back and continue holding his hand.
I’m glad we have a class together, I don’t want to lose that time with Ajax. It’s important to have some scheduled one on one time with the shyest of my mates. It’s crazy I’m already referring to them as my mates when I just found out, but it feels right.
When we get back to the house, Jeremy gives Nic some of his blood, something I should be grossed out by but for some reason I’m not. With all the craziness around me, I must be adjusting quickly.
Once Nic looks better, he comes to heal me and we all settle in around the living room.
“So what happened? Kate came up to Jeremy and I lost it, was that my supernatural side?” I ask.
“Yes and a completely normal reaction, you shouldn’t feel bad about it. We just need to work on some control, we can focus on it when we train,” Nic answers.
“Jax, how did you get me to calm down?” I ask, one second I was furious and the next I was unnaturally calm.
“Well, that’s one of my powers. Maybe we should continue the conversation from earlier? I can go next.”
