I whack him with my hands as I giggle. “Get off me.”

He laughs as he does what I ask. “But seriously, what do you think about moving in together?”

“I want to say yes, but the rational part of me is reminding me that it hasn’t even been that long since you came back into my life. So it might be a little soon for that.”

“I guess you’re right, but you should know that is something I would like us to be working toward.”

“Okay. I’ll keep that in mind.” I laugh.

“Anyway, one of the reasons I came was to see Brady, the other was because I want to talk to you about something.”

“What is it?”

“It’s not a big deal, I just thought you should know so it’s not like I’m keeping things from you.”

“Okay…”

“I got a call from Rachel today,” he says a little apprehensively.

“Rachel? As in your ex-fiancée, Rachel?”

“Yes.”

I’m still. “What did she want?”

“She wanted to talk. She asked to meet and we had lunch.”

“You had lunch with your ex-fiancée today?” My voice is hard.

“Yes, we did.”

“Well, what did she need to talk to you about?”

“She apologized for everything that went down between us. She’s getting married and wanted to make amends to clear conscience.”

I stand up and walk across the room. “How selfish… She hasn’t apologized all these years. Now that she doesn’t want bad juju on her marriage she’s apologizing? She doesn’t even care what this means for you.”

“Exactly. I made that same point at lunch and she acknowledged that it was selfish.”

“I can’t believe her.” I shake my head.

“Wait, why are you so angry?” He stands and walks over to me.

“I’m not angry.” I fold my arms.

He smirks. “Really? Because you could’ve fooled me.”

“Well, I’m not.”

“It was just lunch and that’s it.”

“Why would you even go and see her? Why would you even give her the opportunity to apologize?”

He takes a breath. “Kayla, have you ever been left at the altar?”

“No.”

“Then you have no idea what that feels like. I’m over it, and it took a lot of time to get over it. However, there’s that little part of me that she hurt that will probably always be hurt. That’s why I went, because if there’s anything she could say to make me feel better about all that happened then I wanted to hear it.”
