“You guys aren't coming in?”
Cody smirks before turning to face Lucy.
“Nah, I'm taking your friend here to my place to be screwed hard all day long.”
My eyes widen, as do Lucy's, and she blushes with shame, but Cody just laughs menacingly. Before she speaks, she meets my eyes and gives me a little smile.
“I'll catch up with you later. Just give me a call if you need me.”
As I unclip my seatbelt, I sigh.
“Yeah, well, I won't be here for very long.”
Cody chuckles before he responds.
“Yeah, okay, cub.”
I draw a big breath and cautiously open the car door, step out, and close it behind me. My gaze wanders up a massive skyscraper in front of me, and I simply stand there staring, wondering if this is the right thing to do or if I should have just challenged Chaos and not come here at all. That probably wouldn't have been a smart idea either, so I suppose this is the only way to settle matters.
I attempt to gather my courage before walking forward, dodging the traffic of people until I enter the building. I make my way to the top level, where I find a young woman standing behind a desk. I catch her attention the closer I get and give her a modest smile until I come to a halt in front of her.
“Hey. Which studio is Chaos in, please?”
She gestures silently to a distant back door behind me, and I draw a shaky breath while gazing at it before returning my eyes to hers.
“Thanks.”
I stride to the door on unsteady legs, and while telling myself I can do it, I have a silly sense that I won't be able to, but it's worth a try. When I come to a standstill at the solid black door with a small window that I can’t see through because it’s too high up, I do a quick breathing exercise before raising my fist and knocking.
While waiting, I pull my sleeves further down my arms as a nervous tic, feeling extremely uneasy until the door swings open and my eyes meet Reign's. His serious gaze bores into mine, causing my heart to temporarily stop beating before his dark eyes unexpectedly sweep down me and he takes a step back, motioning with his head that I can enter as if he was aware I was coming.
I give an awkward smile while taking a stride forward and passing him before breaking eye contact. I look around cautiously when I enter the small, dark room as an unfamiliar beat of music plays in the background. From what I can see, there's only one guy in here with Reign, until I hear Chaos rapping and my focus is drawn to the huge glass window to my left.
I hesitantly take steps forward and watch in fascination as he spits into the mic—music I've never heard before—and I am immediately captivated by him and his words. He raps vigorously, completely lost in what he does best while waving his hand about, a joint nestled between his fingers and haze clouding around him.
I stand there, staring, and he's so caught up in the moment that he doesn't even notice I'm here. All the while, I can feel Reigns'eyes on me from behind, crawling all over me, but I attempt to ignore it. After some time, I cast a sidelong glance at Reign, who decides to stand alongside me like a towering beast, and the intensity pours from him, causing my entire body to shiver, but he remains completely silent the entire time and keeps his focus on Chaos as well.
“Is this new music that he will be releasing?”
Reign takes a long breath before responding dryly.
“He hasn't decided yet.”
Reign taps the director on the shoulder with his tattooed fingers, causing the music to abruptly stop. Chaos drops his head, as if about to erupt in anger because his flow has been disrupted, and when he fully turns around, his eyes are grave, yet once they fall upon mine, they relax in an instant. I maintain a neutral expression as we stare at one another, then he raises an eyebrow before removing his headphones and hanging them up. When he opens the door, I take a step back as he and Reign handshake before Reign speaks.
“I'll see you later.”
Chaos nods before looking at the other guy and motioning with his head to leave as well. After watching them both exit, the studio is suddenly plunged into uncomfortable silence, and I am at a loss for words once again. His eyes catch mine instantly, and I glance around a little nervously before speaking.
“Why am I here, Chaos?”
I climb back onto a table, taking a seat while waiting for him to answer and once I am comfortable, I observe him lightingthe end of his joint and drawing a long drag before he finally responds while blowing out smoke, his chin raised.
“I dunno, why the fuck are you here?”
I lift a brow, but when he arches his in the same manner, I cannot help but smile and shake my head before glancing away. I notice him taking steady steps toward me from the corner of my eye, and the closer he comes, the faster my pulse rate rises. When he is entirely in my space, standing between my thighs, his presence once again overwhelms me, but I glance up at him through my lashes while speaking gently under his intense stare.
“I wasn't going to come, but your threat forced me to.”
