“I don’t know how I got here. I knew someday I’d fall in love with someone, but I never expected it to be Vera. But the more time I spend with her and get to know her, the more I realize it wasn’t meant to be anyone else.”
She smiled. “The best things in life are the unexpected. The way Mackenzie and I met, I never thought in a million years we would’ve ended up married with a baby on the way. But that’s the beautiful part of life. It throws things your way that you didn’t know you needed. Hold on to that feeling and run with it.”
I was going to respond with all the doubts I had swirling in my head before I looked up to see Rylee walking towards us. “I saw you all sitting over here from the café. Is everything okay?”
I nodded, but Mackenzie spoke for me. “Yeah, we were just talking about how in love with Vera Cara is.”
Rylee laughed. “Oh good. It’s about time.”
I frowned. “What?”
“Honey, did you think you were hiding it? We’ve been waiting for you to figure it out!”
“So everyone here knew I was in love with her before now? How? When I didn’t even know. I just figured it out when I told Blair last night.”
Daisy raised her hands to respond and Kaia voiced for her. “It’s in your eyes. They can’t lie, and you’ve always known, you just didn’t want to believe it. You thought it was too good to be true, but it’s not. Just like with us, Drea and Blair, and Fallon and Mackenzie, you two are meant to be together. You fit into each other’s lives perfectly. It might not have been easy, but you got there. Hold on to that love and don’t let it go.”
I wiped the tears away and stood up to hug Daisy. “Thank you,” I signed. It was one of the few signs I actually knew, and I’d never meant it more than I did in that moment. “Thanks, guys, and again I’m really sorry I lied to all of you.”
We all said our goodbyes. Fallon and Mackenzie had a dinner date with Mackenzie’s sister, Harper, and the rest of us needed to get back to work. I was glad everything was out in the open and I felt like I could take a deep breath and just enjoy my time with Vera.
Chapter Thirty-Eight
VERA
One of my favorite things was waking up next to Cara. I loved hearing her morning voice. I loved the slow and sensual way we touched each other. At night, we had sex but in the morning, we made love.
We hadn’t said those words yet, but I couldn’t have felt anything else but love for her. She was the first thing I thought about when I woke up, and the last thing I thought of when I went to sleep.
I made sure every word I said, every action I took, showcased just how much of my heart belonged to her. I didn’t want her to ever question my feelings for her.
I didn’t question her feelings for me, but I didn’t want to rush her. I knew she cared for me, but I also knew how scared she was to show anything more. But that was okay. I had all the time in the world. I’d wait for her to catch up.
Another one of my favorite things was walking into the kitchen and seeing her wearing one of my shirts. I loved her in anything she wore, but there was just something about seeing her wearing one of my plaid shirts with nothing underneath.
“Isn’t this a good morning?” I said, not hiding the way I was staring at her legs. There was something about a woman and her soft long legs that had me cursing to myself, but Cara’s? They were a gift to this world.
She grabbed a bottle of water out of the fridge and turned around when I spoke. “Good morning, baby. You scared me. I was just about to make breakfast.”
I walked up to her and took the water bottle from her. Her appearance combined with that term of endearment had me wanting something you couldn’t get from the fridge. “I’ll make breakfast. After.” My voice was low and hungry.
That was the only warning she got before I lifted her up and turned her around, placing her on the counter.
“Vera!” she squealed. “What are you doing?”
“What does it look like, princesa? I’m starving. What did you expect to happen when you walk around my kitchen, wearing my shirt?”
She smiled. “I was hoping for exactly this.” She took my lip between her teeth and I groaned.
“Good. Now lay down. After all, breakfastisthe most important meal of the day.”
I lightly pushed her down so her back was flat against the counter and pulled her closer to the edge.
I spread her legs open more and peppered her thighs with kisses, causing her to shiver.
“So reactive already,” I teased.
I continued kissing my way to where she needed it the most, but spending more time around her center. I was desperate for her, but I also wanted her to squirm a little.
