I looked around for somewhere to go when I realized the closest exit was the front door.
“Sin, come on man. Just turn yourself in,” Reese pleaded, but he should know me better than that.
“Hell nah. They gone kill my ass in prison. I can’t go up in there.” I tried to find something to defend myself with, and my eyes landed on Reese’s gun on the floor. He must’ve known what I was thinking about.
“Don’t do this.” He moved Ronnie off to the side of him, stepping closer to the gun.
“It’s a better way. Don’t go out like this Sin,” Reese urge me, and this the first time I heard real fear in his voice.
“Sincere Dupree!” a voice called out from a distance. “We know you’re in there. Come out with your hands up, or we’ll be forced to enter!”
My heart rate doubled in speed at the thought of being sent to prison. They must’ve found my car the same way Reese did. It ain’t no way I see myself getting out of this one, even if I take Ronnie down with me. This muthafucka finna turn into the wild, wild west because they won’t take me out without a fight.
“I don’t have a choice, man. They got my ass.”
We both went for the gun at the same time. Reese reached for it first, but it fell back down. Then, I got it in my hands, with him still tryna snatch it from my grasp. None of us suspected something was gonna go wrong, until it did.

Chapter 24
Reese
“The personresponsible for the robbery of a home in Southampton has sadly died. The twenty-six-year-old rapper Sincere Dupree lost his life at studio eight last Thursday night. Friends and family remembered him for having a kind, warm spirit. A makeshift memorial is growing to commemorate the rapper...”
I sat in the living room with mama, Rayna, Rylee, and Raine as we watched the news anchor relay what happened or what she thought happened. The truth is, Sincere shot himself in the chest when he tried to snatch the gun.
When the police rammed the door in, they found him lying with his eyes opened, Ronnie was in the corner in shock, and I was just tryna wrap my mind around what happened.
One minute I was beating Sin’s ass for getting my sister pregnant, and the next minute he was gone. And the worst part about it is that Raine blames me for his death. She thinks I lied and claims I’m just tryna cover up the truth. The only person who can clear shit up is Ronnie, but I ain’t heard anything from her since that night.
“Reese, did you have the meeting with Beast yet?” my mama questioned from the loveseat across from me. I nodded.
Beast was hot when he found out about the accident. He thought the shit was gonna blow back on him and his company. I had to explain every detail, starting from the moment Ronnie and I walked inside to look for Sin, down to the struggling of the gun, then the shooting.
After that, he was a little more understanding. I’ve been let out of my contract, and the last album is gonna be released in honor of Sin Sizza’s memory. The proceeds will be donated to a drug treatment facility in the Bronx. I felt it was only right, seeing that Sin was found with five grams of cocaine in his system when he died.
“What about Ronnie?” Mama’s been asking about her nonstop since she found out she was there too.
“She ain’t fucking with a nigga. I’ve called her multiple times for the last week.” We had a funeral for Sin three days ago, and I really wasn’t surprised Ronnie didn’t show up. However, I at least thought she’d answer when I called. I feel like what we’ve been through should’ve brought us closer together, but she’s been pushing me away ever since.
“Yea, I think you should. She probably still going through it,” Rayna added her opinion.
“I hope she comes around soon, though. I liked her for you, brother.” Rylee ain’t meet her yet, so she had nothing to say on the matter, but I caught Raine peeking at me every now and then. They were laying up against each other on the other couch.
“You talked to her?” Rayna cut her eyes at me.
“Rayna, did you talk to her?” I repeated, and I know damn well Ronnie ain’t showing my sister love but leaving me hanging.
“Alright, you aggy as hell. I talked to Ronnie for a little bit yesterday,” she confessed with a sign, her head in her phone.
“She good?” I wondered.
“She’s fine, Reese,” she answered, rolling her eyes.” She staying with her dad until the investigation is over with.”
BCE put Ronnie on administrative leave until they get more information from the police department. Plus, she got in trouble for her relationship with Sin. She was technically his lawyer when all this happened.
“Did she say something about me?” I pried for information, feeling like a sucka ass nigga, but I can’t help it. I missed her so fucking money, it ain’t make no sense.
