Oliver climbs carefully onto the chair beside me while Sophie fixes the veil Luci accidentally sat on fifteen minutes ago.
“Dad looks weird,” Oliver whispers conspiratorially.
I blink. “Weird how?”
“Like he’s gonna throw up.”
That checks out.
Honestly, Ethan Strong being nervous on our wedding day feels deeply healing for me.
“Where is he?” I ask.
Oliver grins. “Pacing.”
Luci chuckles. “Sara says he’s scaring billionaires.”
Perfect.
Absolutely perfect.
Outside the windows, Chicago beams silver blue beside the lake, sunlight flashing against glass towers and water. The skyline stretches behind the hotel, cinematic and beautiful and alive.
A few years ago, I arrived in this city heartbroken, humiliated, and one emotional breakdown away from living inside an airport wine bar permanently.
Now I’m marrying the silver fox billionaire pilot I accidentally slept with after insulting him in first class.
Life is weird.
Beautiful.
But deeply weird.
Sophie appears beside me, holding my bouquet carefully. “How are you feeling?”
I look down at myself.
The dress still feels unreal.
Soft ivory satin, fitted through the waist before falling into elegant layers that somehow make me feel both beautiful and like I might trip over my own emotions.
“I feel…” I exhale shakily. “Happy.”
Luci pretends to faint dramatically. “Disgusting. Hate that for you.”
I laugh. Then immediately cry harder.
“Oh no,” Sophie says softly.
“Oh no,” Luci echoes.
“Why am I crying?”
“You’re getting married.”
“I’ve had babies. I survived a triplet pregnancy. I once threw up during a board charity gala and recovered emotionally. Why is this what breaks me?”
“Because,” Sophie says gently, “someone finally chose you properly.”
