I boarded the second helicopter behind Sarah.
Wade sat near the open door.
His father took the seat beside him.
Sniper secured Reeves across from them.
No one wanted either prisoner near the rescued men, but we needed everyone away from the mountain before the charges brought down the remaining tunnels.
“Rook,” Cobra said over the radio. “You’re going to want to see this.”
He and Fathom were still moving toward the exit.
“What?”
“The facility charges are wired into the primary supports.”
“We know.”
“No, I mean all of them. Madow wasn’t collapsing the prison wing. He was bringing down the entire mountain.”
Sarah looked toward the first helicopter.
“He was going to kill his own people.”
Madow could hear her through the shared radio channel.
He smiled faintly.
His guards noticed.
“What’s funny?” Falcon asked.
“Nothing.”
The final members of Shadow Division emerged from the tunnel.
Cobra sprinted across the landing zone with Fathom beside him.
“Go!” Cobra shouted.
The pilots lifted away.
The eastern entrance disappeared beneath us.
For three seconds, nothing happened.
Then the mountain erupted.
A chain of explosions tore through the ridgeline.
Fire burst from ventilation shafts and concealed access points.
The landing pad split.
The northern tunnel collapsed.
Millions of tons of rock and ice folded inward.
