Rook’s gaze hardened.

The same man who had ended the search for survivors had signed the report explaining away the betrayal.

“Could the signature have been copied?” Rook asked.

“Yes.”

“Could Sheffield have signed without reading it?”

“Yes.”

“Could he be the man who betrayed us?”

Fathom met his eyes.

“Yes.”

Sniper released a breath. “That cleared up absolutely nothing.”

“It means we don’t make assumptions.”

Fathom opened several additional files.

Evidence reports ended halfway through sentences.

Witness statements had vanished.

Sections of drone footage were missing.

High-resolution satellite images had been replaced with older copies that didn’t show the enemy positions surrounding the compound.

Someone wasn’t investigating a failed mission.

Someone was cleaning a crime scene.

One document at a time.

One lie at a time.

Rook leaned over the table.

“Who knew the complete mission package?”

Fathom brought up a security-access report.

Hundreds of names filled the screen.

Analysts.

Pilots.

Mission planners.

Command staff.

Intelligence personnel.

Contractors with limited clearance.
