“Excellent. Mine?”
He smirked. “Best I’ve ever had. How long are you here today?”
“Another hour. Then I have to help Daisy pack up.”
“I can wait. Help load things up.”
I was surprised he’d offer. “Okay.”
“Why don’t you take these, and I’ll get two more, for Penny and your friend. What flavors do you think they’d want?”
It was unexpectedly sweet. “Penny would prefer the strawberry, and probably the yellow lemonade for Daisy.”
“Great. I’ll get them and meet you back at the booth.”
When I returned, Daisy was chatting up some more customers while Penelope was still watching her show.
I turned to see a man at the counter. He was cute in a pretty boy kind of way. All dimples when he took my hand to shake it. “Hi, I’m next door selling fruit. Name is Wes.”
“Nice to meet you.”
He was about to say something else when Chance walked into the booth, giving both Daisy and Penny their lemonades.
Then Chance put his hand on my hip in a possessive gesture.
“What the hell are you doing?” I whispered to him. Why was he putting his hands on me like we were together?
“I’m not entirely sure.”
I looked up into his amused face. “Your hand is on my hip like you’re claiming me.”
He smirked. “My hand’s activity was unauthorized by my brain. I don’t know what else to tell you.”
I stifled a giggle. “Stop,” I murmured, noting both Daisy’s and Wes’s eyes on us.
“Move away from me if you don’t like it.”
“You move away.”
“I dare say, I think you kind of like this.”
“I do not.” I totally did.
“Then step away from me.”
“I—” What was happening to me? Was I getting turned on by the way he was acting jealous? By the way he was staking his claim? No. I wasn’t a stake-your-claim kind of girl. I didn’t enjoy his alpha bullshit. But if that were true, then why weren’t my feet moving? Why was my traitorous body leaning into him as if it craved his warmth?
