Chance
What the hell was happening to me? This woman was turning me into a guy who snapped impromptu photos, who grabbed kisses in public, and who now staked his claim like a jealous lover. I’d never been this man. Never felt this way about a woman.
She remained next to me. Meanwhile, my fingers were practically burning through her sundress, craving nothing more than to feel the softness of her skin underneath.
Wes, or whatever his name was, glanced toward my hand on her hip, the universal sign of possession. He gave a tight smile before turning his attention to Daisy. “Anyhow, just wanted to say hi. Nice to meet you both.”
“Take care,” Daisy said while greeting another customer.
“Your body doesn’t agree with your words, Tory,” I leaned down to whisper. Didn’t she notice how she was getting closer?
“Yeah, well, it’s acting without permission.”
My chuckle came easily, especially when she looked up and rolled her eyes at the situation.
Once the neighbor walked away, I finally relaxed, yet I didn’t stop touching her.
“This honey soap is Tory’s favorite,” Daisy indicated, making a sale to a woman who’d come up.
Interesting. I finally removed my hand from Tory in order to step over toward the soaps.
When I picked up one of the yellow shiny bars, I could immediately identify her signature scent. “I’ll take all of these,” I told Daisy.
“I wonder why?” she murmured, grinning as she bagged up the remaining seven bars.
I handed her cash and turned toward Tory.
She sighed. “Haven’t we gone over the fact I’m uncomfortable with gifts?”
“These aren’t for you. They’re for me.”
“You have a sudden urge to smell like honey?”
I moved close, my words for her ears only. “No, but I want to be reminded of your scent in every single one of my showers.”
She shivered in response.
Daisy surveyed her table. “You know, I’m out of almost all of my soaps, so we should start packing up. And since I don’t have any plans for the rest of the day, I’d love to take Penelope to my new apartment. She can meet the neighbor’s puppy, and I could bring her back to your place later tonight.”
Daisy was officially my new favorite person.
“Won’t you be tired after a busy day?” Tory posed the question as if she were looking for an excuse.
Her friend shook her head. “Not at all. I’m only going to be puppy-sitting, and Penelope will love it.”
“I’m sure she would.” Tory walked over to where Penelope had her headphones on and took one off her ear. “Would you like to go with Daisy after the market and see her apartment and meet her neighbor’s puppy?”
Penny’s eyes went wide as saucers. “Yes. That would be so fun.”
Daisy began gathering boxes from under the table. “Then let’s get this show packed up and on the road.”
There was a hum flowing through me once we’d packed Daisy up and I was alone with Tory in my Jaguar. The anticipation over having her all to myself once we got to the house, was making me anxious to get there.
She glanced over with a smile.
“What are you thinking about?”
“I’m wondering how many suits you own. Do you have any jeans? Shorts?”
