Once I got myself together, I walked out of the conference room to find Courtney waiting for me at the elevator.

“Mariah, I am sorry. I wish I had never suggested that you go out with him.”

I shrugged. “It’s okay. I guess now I can focus on me and some other things, and hopefully I can get another anchor job somewhere else.”

We got in the elevator, and she rode it down to the main floor and walked me outside.

“Do you want to cuss Shy out before you leave?”

I laughed. “No, trust, I will be seeing him. I’ma miss you,” I said, hugging Courtney.

“I’ma miss you too. Call me if you ever need me.”

I nodded and got into the limo, surrounded by all my things cramped into boxes, and it pulled off.

When we got to my house, the driver helped me carry my things in and left them on the floor by my front door. I don’t know what came over me, but once he left, I broke down and cried in front of all my things.

On one hand, I was losing my husband no matter how hard I was fighting. On the other hand, the man I thought was a friend made me lose my job, and now I was carrying his baby.

I felt so broken and didn’t have one friend I could call who wouldn’t tell me to just leave Rosama and get rid of the baby.

I knew it was all that simple, but I couldn’t bring myself to sign the papers, just like I didn’t think I would get rid of the baby.

I looked through my phone, trying to see who I could call to take my mind off the shit show I put my life on when I got a message from Shyheim.

Shyheim: I hope going against me was worth it. Good luck on your job hunt.

And just like that, Shyheim sealed his fate with me, just like Rosama did when he slept with Monica. I made up my mind right then to keep the baby just to get under his skin. I just needed to figure out how I was gonna do that and keep Rosama too.

Instead of continuing to mope, I ordered myself some food, continued to stalk Nylah online, and added Shy in as well.

I went to my office and printed the divorce papers, signed them, and tucked them away in a manila envelope. He didn’t have to be with me, but I was gonna fuck up his and Nylah's relationship for as long as I could.

Chapter 30

Nylah

While the calls and texts slowed down from Rosama, nothing else did.

He made sure I had the key to get my fabric. He sent me flowers, lunch to work, and dinner at home. While I was in school, I was getting notifications that bills were paid that I knew I didn’t pay.

Every now and then, he would send me a message telling me he missed me. I would look at it and smile and not text him back.

I wanted him to miss me and know he shouldn’t have even tried me, and by the gifts I was getting, I think he was catching the point.

That didn’t mean I didn’t miss him, ‘cause I did. If I wasn’t at school or work, I was at home, and I was bored as hell.

It was a Saturday, and I had just finished cleaning my place when I heard banging at my door. When I went to it, I was expecting to cuss somebody out, but when I opened it, my girls rushed in.

“What the hell you doin’ today?” Denise asked.

I looked down at myself, standing there in booty shorts, a crop top, and footies.

“Um, nothin’, I'm chillin’.”

They all shook their heads.

“Nope, we are going to a day party,” Ari said.
