“And?”

“And you’re taking it seriously. I don’t want you missing something you need to do because of me.”

“First of all, it ain’t because of you. That’s my child.” He pointed toward my stomach. “Second, rehab can get moved around. I’m not missing no appointment for my baby.”

The seriousness in this voice had me staring at him.

“Okay, Big Daddy.

“Damn right, okay.”

I laughed and shook my head. “You so damn aggressive.”

“And you knew that shit before you married me.”

“Unfortunately.”

“Unfortunately?” His eyebrows shot up.

I bit my lip, already knowing I had fucked up.

“Nawl.” He grabbed my ankle when I tried to pull my feet off his lap. “Bring yo’ ass back over here. What the fuck you mean, unfortunately?”

“Kyrie!” I laughed, trying to pull away.

“Nawl, explain that shit.”

“I was playing!”

“Uh-huh. Better be.”

I finally stopped fighting him, and his hand loosened around my ankle. He gave me one last look before his eyes dropped toward my stomach.

Without saying anything, he reached over and rested his palm against it. That small gesture shut me up.

There wasn’t much of anything there yet. No bump. Nothing for him to feel. But the way his hand stayed there made my chest arm.

“You know you can’t feel nothing yet right?” I asked.

“I know.”

“Then what are you doing?”

His eyes lifted to mine.

“Touching my baby.”

A smile pulled at my lips before I could stop it.

“You’re going to be a mess.”

“Probably.” He shrugged, rubbing his thumb slowly across my stomach. “Better get used to that shit now.”

“I’m already getting used to it.”

A small smirk touched his lips before he finally looked back at me. For a second, neither of us said anything.

Then, something in his expression shifted.
