“Hmm?” she repeated. “That’s all you got to say?”

“What you want me to say?”

“I don’t know. I just figured you’d be upset.”

I stared down at the table, running my finger along the edge of the menu.

“Why would I be upset over some old ass pictures?”

The other end of the phone went quiet. Only for a second, but I caught it.

“Old?”

“Yeah.” I smiled to myself. “Me and Mani ain’t been together in forever. You of all people should know that, girl. You know I haven’t talked to that nigga since he cheated on me.”

“I know.” Her voice changed. Just a little. “But everybody else doesn't know that.”

“Don’t matter.”

“What about Kyrie?”

My smile disappeared, and I looked at Drayla.

“What about my husband?”

“I mean… has he seen them?”

“Why?”

“No reason. I’m just asking.”

“Nawl.” I sat up a little straighter. “You called me, remember? So, I’m asking why you so worried about what Kyrie thinks.”

“I’m not worried about Kyrie.”

“Could’ve fooled me.”

“Sianni, I’m trying to be a friend.”

I let out a laugh before I could stop myself.

“A friend?”

“Yes.”

“Alexia, we already established we ain’t friends anymore.”

“That doesn’t mean I can’t be concerned about you.”

I rolled my eyes.

“Well, save that concern for somebody who needs it.”

“Sianni—”

“And since you so worried about Kyrie, he’s good.”

There was another pause.
