“So, y’all good?”
This bitch. I finally knew exactly what this phone call was. She wasn’t checking on me; she was checking for damage.
“Me and my husband are great.”
“Oh.”
There it was again. That little drop in her voice. Tiny, but not tiny enough.
“That’s good,” she added quickly.
“Yeah. It is.”
I glanced across the table at Drayla, and the look on her face told me she had caught that shit, too. Alexia could keep pretending all she wanted, but for once I wasn’t ignoring the signs.
“Besides,” I said casually, reaching for my glass. “Kyrie already got somebody looking into where the pictures came from.”
It was silent, so I took a slow sip of my drink.
“Oh… really?”
“Yeah.”
There was another pause. Her ass was starting to get hella quiet, meaning she knew something, but I was going to let her ass hang herself.
“Did they… did they find anything?”
I lowered my glass on the table.
“Why?”
“No reason. Damn, Sianni. I’m just asking.”
“Mhm.”
“I mean, whoever did that shit is fucked up. Those pictures are old, and they knew exactly what they were doing by sending them to the blogs.”
My fingers stilled against the glass. This shit was getting interesting.
“How you know somebody sent them?”
“What?”
“You said whoever sent them to the blogs.”
“I…” She paused. “I mean, how else would they get them?”
I looked across the table at Drayla again. Between her and this glass of water on the table, they were my focal point, keeping me calm.
“I don’t know,” I replied, keeping my voice calm. “That’s why Kyrie trying to figure out.”
“Oh.”
“But he’ll find out.”
“I’m sure he will.”
She tried to sound normal, but that little hesitation had already told me everything I needed to know.
