I dropped my arms and sighed. “No, of course not. You know I think you’re one of the strongest people I’ve ever met.”

“And yet, you’ve watched me do this hundreds of times and have never tried to stop me before.”

“It’s different now.”

Paige gestured for me to continue, circling her finger in front of me.

“You weren’t mine before. I’ll be fucking damned if you get hurt and I was there to stop it.”

Paige hummed and stepped up to me before tilting so she could look me in the eyes. “You don’t get to tell me what to do, Jesse.”

I reached up and cupped her jaw, moving my thumb so it rested right on her throat. “Wanna bet?”

“Don’t test me. I’ll make it my sole mission to piss you off.”

“Baby, you’ve been doing that for a long time.”

The little vixen smirked at me. “You’re kind of hot when you get all protective and growly.”

Paige rose up on her toes and placed a quick kiss to my lips before slipping out of my grip. She extended a palm to her brothers, the other planted on her popped hip.

Reid and Axle groaned before pulling out their wallets and slapping bills into her hand.

“You cheated.” Reid rolled his eyes.

“I did not.” Paige laughed. “I just know my husband better than you do, apparently.”

“Wait, you bet on me?” I asked, glaring directly at the woman who was going to be the death of me.

“They didn’t think you’d try to stop me.” Paige shrugged.

My gaze swung to Walker. “Were you in on this?”

“Hell no. I wasn’t in the mood to lose my money.”

“Un-fucking-believable.” I shook my head.

Paige skipped to me and wrapped her arms around my neck. “Thanks for being a broody asshole.”

“You’re going to fucking kill me one day.” I placed my hands under her thighs and pulled her up so she could wrap her legs around my waist.

“Probably.” She giggled before leaning in and crashing her mouth to mine. My hands found her ass as I nipped at her bottom lip, urging her to open up for me.

“Yeah, this is still fucking weird.” Reid coughed and dry-heaved.

“For the love of god, please stop,” Axle begged as Walker made a grunting sound.

Paige and I burst into laughter as we left the dramatic Brooks siblings behind us. I wasn’t waiting a single minute more to get her to the barn to show her just how much her little stunt affected me.

I carried her all the way to the stairs of the barn apartment, dropping her just before the first step. She turned to walk up them, but I grabbed her shoulders and spun her until her back was flesh against the metal wall.

I draped a hand over her head and leaned into her space.

“Did you think your little stunt was funny?”

She sucked her bottom lip between her teeth and nodded.

I hummed as my fingertips trailed up her thigh. “Well, I didn’t.”
