I ignored her. “Brae, ladies, I’ll call y’all later.”

“Okay, boo. Love you!” Robyn called out.

I chuckled because I knew she was drunk.

“Love you, too, girly.”

Khalil took my hand, bidding his friends a good night, then led me back out of the house.

“You gon’ have to tell me what the real beef is with you and Sabrina when we get to our destination. And not that surface-level shit either.”

I smirked. “Just take me to my surprise, sir. And it better be the best surprise ever.”

“I wouldn’t do it no other way, baby.”

I cruised down the I-10, heading to Houston. After checking on Nana and Kiyanne, I booked a room at the Four Seasons for the weekend. Although my home was large enough for Piper and me to go undetected or unheard, it was still the home I shared with my grandmother and daughter.

Since Nana mentioned she’d heard the few chicks I’d smashed, I knew I couldn’t let her hear Piper and taint the image she had of her.

I wanted Piper to walk around completely naked. I wanted to see her killer-ass body on full display. I didn’t have any games or practices this weekend, and Piper had no plans; it was the perfect time for some quality time.

Aside from that, I wanted to spend some time away with her without any interruptions.

Interruptions meaning Nia’s ass.

She had been on bullshit since she saw Piper and me in the restaurant, sending threatening messages about fighting Piper, which I ignored because I knew she was spiraling. She’d just recently calmed down and sent me photos of prescriptions and information on a therapist she had been seeing for two weeks.

It didn’t matter what she sent me. If I didn’t see the change, there was no way I’d allow her around our daughter alone.

“Can I ask where we’re going?” Piper asked after we’d been on the road for over forty minutes.

I looked over at her and smirked. “You can. Will I answer, is the bigger question.”

“Will you answer then?”

“Maybe.” She sucked her teeth, and I laughed. “What’s the point of the surprise if I tell you?”

“I guess you’re right. I’m a little curious, so that makes me a little excited.”

“Oh shit. Is my baby getting excited? I’m touched.”

She mushed me, and we laughed. I noticed that she never got excited when I’d buy her things or take her places. She’d smile, thank me, and show her appreciation, but actually being excited about something was new to her.

“Anyway. How’s my PGK doing?”

“PGK?”

She smiled. “Pretty Girl Kiyanne.”

Something in my chest expanded. “She’s good. I just checked on her. Nana was putting her down for the night.”

“And how’s she?”

“Still Nana, of course. Open the glove compartment for me,” I told her.

She opened it. “What am I looking for?”

“Grab that eye mask and put it on for me.”
