"That's not the point."

I frowned. He looked away. For a moment, only the rain filled the silence between us.

Finally, he spoke quietly. "The point is that I don't want anything to happen to you."

Something in my chest tightened. Finally, we had reached the medical tent.

The medic sitting inside took one look at my arm and sighed the sigh of someone who had spent an entire career dealing with stubborn men.

"Sit down,” the medic ordered.

I lowered myself onto one of the folding chairs while the medic cleaned the scrapes along my forearm. The antiseptic stung, but I ignored it. Nico continued standing nearby, glaring at me with his arms crossed. The medic glanced between us.

"You two married?" The medic asked.

I coughed and Nico immediately said, “No.”

The medic hummed. "Could've fooled me."

Nico made a strangled sound. I suddenly found the opposite wall fascinating. The injuries turned out to be exactly what I'd expected. They weren’t really anything serious.

"You'll live," the medic announced. "You should also avoid handling heavy equipment for a few days."

"No promises."

The medic rolled their eyes and walked away to tend to someone else in another tent. Silence settled between us. Nico still hadn't stopped glaring. We were finally alone. Eventually, I sighed, and decided to speak up.

"I'm genuinely sorry,” I told Nico.

His head snapped up. "What?"

"For worrying you."

The anger vanished from his expression so quickly it almost startled me. Instead came surprise, confusion, then something softer.

It was a strange sight, seeing someone else other than Logan being concerned about my well being.

"You don't have to apologize for doing your job,” Nico finally said.

I stood, stepped close enough that I could see raindrops still clinging to his eyelashes. I breathed in the familiar scent of coffee and rain and Nico. My inner wolf woke up.

"But I can apologize for forgetting that other people might care what happens to me too,” I said.

For once, Nico looked completely speechless. An unfamiliar experience for both of us. His mouth opened, and I didn't give myself time to think. I leaned forward and kissed him.

His lips parted slightly beneath mine in surprise before he kissed me back. For a moment the storm, the damaged set and even the worrying thought of the stalker disappeared.

The only thing that mattered was Nico. His hands cupped my face.

My wolf surged forward with unmistakable approval. I could feel my erection straining against the zipper of my jeans, and Nico's own hardness pressed against me.

Nico's cheeks had turned pink. His eyes looked glazed with lust. Those gorgeous eyes widened as I unzipped him and wrapped my fingers around his shaft.

Nico flashed me a grin which only made my pulse race. Then he mimicked what I did. He groaned as I began moving my fingers up and down. He did the same to me.

His breath caught, and I stole another kiss. Sweetness exploded on my mouth. I worked him faster, Nico matched my speed. The pressure inside me built, threatening to crest over.

We both unraveled at the same time, panting and slightly out of breath. I looked around the tent, spied a nearby box of wet wipes and cleaned us both up.
