They struggle.

Fight.

Kick out.

Cry.

“I learned a lot of things over the centuries.”

I stare into their eyes as I keep my voice low.

“Mercy wasn’t one of them.”

Chapter 58

Rune

Heat rolls low in my belly as I watch Vameer lift the men by their necks.

His tone is menacing. Dangerous. Protective.

Over me.

I’m stepping closer, my eyes wide with anticipation, as he lifts the men higher.

I should probably worry about my apparent bloodlust.

But these men just broke into my apartment. They were racing toward me, with guns in their hands.

These are men who would’ve killed me without a thought.

One of the men lifts his gaze over Vameer’s shoulder, meeting mine.

I lift a hand and wiggle my fingers at him.

Then Vameer slams them both to the floor.

Through the floor.

My mouth drops open as I breathe raggedly.

Vameer straightens, his hands empty and two man-sized holes in the floor before him.

The destruction was loud but over quickly.

Our heartbeat slows as I move to stand beside Vameer.

I peer down through one of the holes and see that both men fell onto the same pottery display. Crushing everything. Including, I assume, every bone in the men’s bodies.

I grimace at the mess.

“Lo siento. The artwork… I did not mean to.”

I step back from the hole in the floor. “Eh, that artist was rude. So fuck him too.”

Sirens sound in the distance.

“We must go.” My backpack lifts off the chair and flies into Vameer’s hands. “Thirty seconds to grab what you cannot leave.”
