Is his sword black now?
Then he swings it.
The blade swipes through empty air in front of him.
There’s a flicker of something at the tip of his weapon.
I press my nose to the glass, watching the sword as it comes to a stop.
Something hangs off the end. Like a… whip.
Then I realize the shooting has stopped.
I lift my gaze back to the men.
They start to… move.
One torso tips forward as the lower half of the body tips backward.
I squeeze my eyes shut as the rest of the men start to slip apart.
Okay, that’s nasty.
Then the window at the back of my apartment shatters.
Chapter 57
Vameer
Twelve halves of men thud to the ground.
People should really learn to stop shooting at me.
The gravito dissolves as I shove my sword back into place at my side.
We need to—
Glass shatters.
Rune screams.
And my feet leave the ground before I even turn.
Gravito surges out in front of me, ripping the window from the apartment.
I tuck as I jump through the hole in the wall.
Unfurling just as fast, I land on my feet, between Rune and the two men rushing toward her from the back window.
They try to stop, boots skidding on the wood floor.
Rage fuels my power, and gravito lashes around their gun hands, tightening until the bones break, and they drop their weapons.
I stride forward, meeting them in the middle of the room, beside my mate’s bed.
Beside the spot where I first joined with My Heart.
A growl reverberates out of my chest, and I wrap my fingers around their throats. “You dare to come here. Of all places.”
