The doctors and staff here have trust in their patients.
In my time here, I have met with some other doctors who see multiple patients a week, while I only have two, which was supposed to be only one patient. Veronica was the only patient I was asked to see, and then Dr. Bennett asked me to take on Ruby. It is going better than expected, but I wonder how doctors can deal with multiple patients daily.
Back in the office downtown, it was easier to take on more patients. Here? With what these women went through? I’m not sure I could handle it. I thought that taking on another patient would help distract me from Veronica.
Having her as my only patient wasn’t the smartest idea. Even with Ruby under my care, I still feel like I focus all my extra time on Veronica.
Sitting at my desk, I listen to a recording of Ruby’s session, attempting to dull Veronica from my mind, if only for a moment. I’m taking notes and jotting down questions I missed an opportunity to ask her.
My pen fluidly moves while I write all my thoughts on the many things Ruby had to say. As my pen moves fluently on the paper, I hear a light tap on my door, and for a moment, my heart stops.
My hand freezes, the pen positioned tightly between my fingers, as panic washes over me. What if I lift my eyes, and the woman I’m trying to push out of my mind stands in the doorway? What if she has that seductive grin she wears so well? Would I be able to turn her away again?
Relief washes over me when I force my eyes away from the paper to find Myles standing there. I turn the recorder off and gesture for him to come in.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to disrupt you,” he apologizes, sitting down. His voice appears shaky as if he was nervous about talking to me.
“It’s all good, man.” My eyes drift down to his bouncing leg. “Are you okay?”
“Hmm? Yeah, it’s just…” He starts, then stops. His mouth shuts tight, forming a thin line as he tries to figure out how he wants to say whatever’s got him acting this way. “Veronica and I talked.”
There is that pounding in my heart again. The one that threatens to rip my heart right from my chest. The leg under my desk mimics Myles’ nervous behavior. It bounces uncontrollably. I’m glad he can’t see how worked up I’m getting.
“About what?”
“Well, about the two of you.” His voice is hushed.
“Jesus Christ, Myles.” I toss the pen down onto the desk. It bounces off the notepad and rolls off to the right. “You weren’t supposed to say anything!”
“I’m sorry! It just came up.”
“Why?”
“Dunno.” He shrugs. “I was in the cafeteria getting breakfast, talking to that hot nurse when Veronica showed up. By the way, she fully hates that nurse of yours.”
“You didn’t say anything in front of Scarlet, did you?”
“God, no! I’m not fucking stupid.” He sits forward. “We waited until she was gone.”
“And what did you talk about?” My leg is still bouncing.
“Just that you two have been together.” He pauses, licking his lips before continuing. “She asked me if you’d be okay with sharing her.” The sentence comes out quickly while his face scrunches. “I told her I didn’t think you would, but she was very adamant about it. Wanted me to come talk to you about having a threesome.”
A sigh leaves me because I know he’s telling the truth.
“You don’t believe me.” He shakes his head with a laugh.
“No, I do,” I state, pinching the bridge of my nose. “She mentioned it yesterday when I talked to her.”
“And?” I piqued his interest.
“And what?” My hand drops from my face.
“What did you tell her?” A tiny smile formed on his lips.
“Myles, I obviously told her no.”
“The hell, Leo?” He throws his hands up in shock. “Why? It’s not like it’s the first time we’ve ever shared a girl.”
