“She’s my fucking patient!” I remind him.
He’s not wrong, though. Many times in college, we hooked up with the same girl at the same time. It didn’t happen often and only usually happened when we were both drunk out of our minds.
That’s one reason I can’t believe he wants to do this. Since we were drunk the other times, there wasn’t any awkwardness during the act.
The other reason? I haven’t even had sex with her yet!
While I’m sitting here thinking about all this anger that builds, the anger that has since taken up residence in my body from taking Veronica on as a patient. I’m not angry with Myles. I’m angry with Veronica because I demanded she drop it, and she had to disobey me.
“Leo?” His voice drags me away from my mind.
“Hmm?”
“You look pissed,” he points out with caution.
“I am pissed! She shouldn’t have even spoken to you about all of it.” I stand up, pushing the chair further behind me. “I’ll be right back.”
“Should I stay here or…”
“Sure, I don’t care.” I don’t glance at him as I leave the room.
My steps quicken once I leave the hall of offices. I frantically shift my eyes at the patients surrounding me, scoping out the one I’m searching for.
Myles told me he talked with her in the cafeteria, so I assumed she would still be there, but she wasn’t. She isn’t in the common room either, which aggravates me.
Where the hell could she be at this time of day?
Deciding that the only other place to look was her bedroom, I stalk down the hall and turn the corner to the patient's rooms. Again, there weren’t any patients down here, making it eerily quiet until I heard footsteps.
Veronica was rounding the corner a couple of feet down the hall from me. She had a cream sweater wrapped around her body, her gaze on the ground while she watches her footsteps.
Exhaling out a heated breath, I stride in her direction, and when I’m almost in front of her, she finally looks up. Our eyes meet, and a glimpse of amusement is hidden in her glare before that devilish grin takes over her face.
“You think this is funny?” I fold my arms over my chest.
She shakes her head, knowing all too well what I’m talking about. “Not at all. I think it’s quite serious.”
“Then wipe that damn smirk off your face,” I warn, inching closer.
Her bottom lip folds between her teeth as she teases, “What will you do if I don’t?”
Fucking hell.
As I open my mouth, the sound of more footsteps comes from where I had just been. Full of panic because we can’t let anyone see us alone back here, I grab Veronica’s arm and rush her to the nearest hiding place.
A janitor's closet.
Once inside, I tug at the dainty string that turns on the dimmest light in the world. If anyone were to walk past, they wouldn’t even know we were in here. That’s how terribly lit the small room is.
Bringing my hand up, I cover her mouth to stop any noise or words from leaving her. Her eyes smile at the gesture, and I roll mine, trying to listen carefully as the footsteps get closer.
They grow louder when they come near us, then soften as whoever it was leaves the hallway. My shoulders drop after being flooded with relief and when I give my attention back to Veronica, I realize she had been watching me the entire time. She saw the panic on my face of almost getting caught. She loved every single second of it.
“I told you to drop the whole Myles thing.” I remove my hand.
“Yes, but then I thought about it some more and did the opposite. All I could think about was how the two of you could make me feel.” Her finger finds the buttons of my shirt, then reaches for my hand, moving it to the waistband of her sweats. “I’m already wet from imagining it. Wanna feel?”
“Veronica,” I say her name sternly. She ignores me, of course, pushing my hand deeper into her pants.
