“Police sketches,” Seagrave said, as if reading Brax’s mind and answering him. “These three sketches might be of some interest to you.”

Seagrave and Grey disappeared from the screen, replaced by a composite sketch of a fifty-something man with unruly hair, a strong jaw, and large eyes that seemed to look out through the monitor.

“Killion Lambert,” announced Seagrave’s disembodied voice. ”The director of Group Ultra, and someone for whom we didn’t yet have any identifying material.”

“Good job, Grey,” Brax said, and he genuinely meant it.

“Do you recognize this man?” Seagrave asked.

The image now on the screen had a thin face, wavy hair cut short, a full mouth, and eyebrows that were almost flat. There was something familiar about him, but—

“Jorge Ramos,” Seagrave said at the same time the name popped into Brax’s mind.

“Are you going to tell me he’s also at Group Ultra?”

“Correct,” Seagrave said. “And we have reason to believe he’s been an operative there for almost two decades.”

“He was part of the original team to steal the Sisters,” Brax said, although both Ryan and Seagrave undoubtedly knew that. “If you’re right, he was with Group Ultra when Sabrina’s van exploded.”

“That’s correct,” Seagrave said. He didn’t elaborate. Instead, he said, “And this is the final sketch.”

The screen went to static for a bit before coming into focus. When it did, Brax gasped. This time, the sketch was of a woman.

Sabrina.

“No,” he said. “Absolutely not. There is no way in hell she’d be part of a group like that. It’s not even debatable.”

“And yet there she is.”

“No. I don’t believe it.”

“We have reason to believe she’s been duped,” Ryan said gently. “From what we’ve learned, most of their lower-and mid-level agents have been. They believe they’re working for a covert branch of the SOC. Obviously, they’re not. Lambert clearly knows the real score. Ramos is a question mark. Samantha, we believe, is an innocent.”

“Fuck,” Brax said. “Is she there now?”

“We believe so. We don’t have confirmation.”

“Shit. Shit, shit, shit.” He held up a hand, apologizing to the man on the screen and the man behind the desk. And debating whether or not to tell these two men who “Samantha” really was.

He didn’t want to. Doing that would only rip down whatever tiny bit of trust still existed between them. But there were much bigger things at play than his relationship with Brina.

Now, however, probably wasn’t the time.

He drew in a tight breath. “We know the SOC’s shadow is trying to steal the sisters. I doubt it’s because Lambert wants to decorate his living room. Do we know why they need those diamonds?”

“We don’t,” Ryan says.

“Actually, we do,” Seagrave corrected. “Agent Grey?”

“Lambert briefed us,” Grey said. “According to him, there’s a terrorist group looking to steal the Sisters because a diamond of their size and quality is needed to power some James Bond style space laser.”

“Really.” Ryan’s brows rose. “I have to admit that’s the first time I’ve heard that one.”

“I’m afraid it’s legit,” Seagrave said. “If that’s truly their purpose, we can’t risk them getting those diamonds.”

“Jorge knows that we’re planning on planting the counterfeit diamond in Wolfe’s vault,” Brax said. “Odds are good, if he’s a higher level at Group Ultra, then he knows he needs to send in a team before we make the switch. And since the heist team is meeting later today, that means that ideally those diamonds will be in the clear in the next few hours. How the hell are we going to make that happen?”

“I can take care of that,” Ryan said.
