“Before I knew your name, and your story along with the pain you carried into Lucille’s office the day of my release. My soul recognized something my mind hadn’t caught up to yet…” I held my free hand out in front of her.
She carefully placed her hand in mine before I continued.
“I saw you, Nova baby.” I lowered my head, letting the tears stream freely down my face. “When I saw you, something inside me finally found peace. The day I was released from prison felt like a blade was carving away every shred of sanity I had. Breathing became difficult…all I knew was pain, hurt, and despair… until you burst into that office and suddenly everything paused.” I swallowed hard.
“I was so determined to get close to you. That first encounter with you was addictive, which is why I never tried to focus just on sex at the start. Though I didn’t realize you were hurting, I could still see a painful story in your beautiful eyes and wished to change that until happiness replaced it. I don’t want to drain you or unload my burdens onto you. I don’t want you to feel responsible for me or have doubts. We can support each other, build together, and love one another.” I drew in a deep breath, overwhelmed by all the things I wanted to say. I hadn’t spoken this much since I was young, always keeping conversations brief to avoid the pain.
“I appreciate every aspect of who you are... Your individuality and demeanor… I’m to the point, La’Nova, where I can’t imagine what my life is like without you… If you never wanted to work another day in your life, I’ll stand behind you through anything. If you want to take months at a time to travel in your camper, I’m with that too. Whatever you want, I just want to be the one—”
“You stuck with me, Luca bear.” She cut through my rambling.
I was grateful for it because even though I was the type to show with actions to make her feel secure. I understood that women still liked to hear it with words.
“Will you marry me? Take my last name although it has brought you—”
“Yes, I will marry you and become Mrs. Bonetti.” She sobbed out the last part.
For the first time, my hands shook as I held her hand to slide the ring on her finger. Both of our faces was drenched in tears as I kissed her deeply before pulling her close.
“Oh shii—shoot!” Cain exclaimed from behind us.
We pulled apart, laughing at Cain’s expense. I let go of our hug and asked Abel to pick up Novae. Moments later, we all ended up on the floor in a group hug that filled me with more love than I’d ever felt before. In that moment, I felt whole. This was the new Bonetti family, right here in this room.
CHAPTER 27
Amaris
02.03.27- A CAPO’S LOVE
I was nervous as hell and ready to get tonight over with. Dinner with my father and Royal had me stressed. Real stressed. I stood in front of the bedroom mirror smoothing nonexistent wrinkles from my yellow dress while trying to calm myself down.
Royal’s mother and father sat together with Keisha, unattended, as the chef prepared dinner. I sighed, stepped away from the mirror, and seated myself at the edge of the bed. The relationship between my father and me had actually improved significantly.
He still didn’t care for Royal, but I could admit our relationship grew stronger. If I didn’t see him, we spoke on the phone every day. That in itself made me feel good. Him and Keisha still had their times when they were on and off. Just last week she fought one of the main chicks he kept around for convenience.
My eyes wandered around the room; it smelled like Royal’s body wash that drifted from the bathroom. I eyed the steam that rolled beneath the door while water continued running inside the shower. His stubborn ass was in no rush to have this dinner which really put my nerves on edge. It was the thought that counted for me though because Royal was really down to give things another try with my father which meant the world to me.
Months ago, my life revolved around Spike’s Lounge. Managing staff, checking inventory and arguing with vendors. Making sure my father wasn’t secretly creating problems and staying out of trouble used to be at the top of my list of things to do every single day.
Now? My current days looked completely different. I had new property acquisitions, events, and business meetings that I sometimes found myself bored in. Me and Royal went on our first vacation to Jamaica a couple of days after our birthday and drew even more close. We were inseparable. The man was my soulmate; we stayed on top of each other and no matter how busy we both were with work we made time.
He somehow managed to always create more work for himself while simultaneously making my life easier. Since he was familiar with business, he taught me so much on how to run mine successfully.
I was genuinely happy. It wasn’t perfect every day because I still cursed Royal out every now and then, but I was happy.
The bathroom door opened, steam immediately spilled into the room. Roy stepped out with a towel wrapped around his waist. His chocolate skin glistened. Water clung to his shoulders and beard while the scent of his cedarwood body wash followed him across the room. I hated when his cocky ass caught me staring.
His signature smirk appeared just as I rolled my eyes hard at him.
“The fuck I do now?” he asked, dropping his towel.
My eyes immediately fell down to the thick limp piece of meat lying between his muscular legs.
“Nothing.” I licked my lips.
“That’s a lie.” He chuckled.
He walked over to his dresser casually, still smirking since he was entirely too pleased with himself. He glanced back at me, and from the way his lip twitched, I knew he was about to choose violence.
